About the role: The Manager of Communications will develop, manage, and deploy communications strategies and tactics to build the company’s brand and reputation among clients, brokers and consultants, media, and other stakeholders. The person in this role will report to the AVP, Communications (Brand/Buzz) and will work closely with that individual, as well as the marketing team, to implement comprehensive campaigns.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing strategic public relations plans; owning the company’s media relations strategy; and forging trusted relationships with key audiences.
The position requires the ability to think strategically and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must be comfortable collaborating across teams, navigating ambiguity, and managing competing demands and priorities.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive public relations plans that increase awareness and support a strong brand identity, including setting goals, developing messaging, tracking performance, and recommending areas for improvement.
- Develop messaging and positioning that support and differentiate Premise; serve as a brand storyteller, striving to connect with audiences while also ensuring consistency across communications channels and platforms.
- Oversee the Premise press strategy. Activities will include identifying opportunities for press releases, developing messaging and positioning, pitching media, preparing executives for interviews, and overseeing reporting on results.
- Build and nurture relationships with reporters and media outlets, with the goal of increasing Premise coverage over time
- Oversee executive thought leadership, including:
- A regular Premise client newsletter
- Editorials from executives
- LinkedIn presence for executives
- Media and presentation training for spokespeople
- Support internal audiences, including sales and operations, with external communications to clients, brokers and consultants, and other stakeholders. As needed, prepare talking points and briefings to drive messaging alignment.
- Manage crisis communications when required.
- Mentor other team members to achieve maximum potential and professional growth where appropriate.
- Oversee select vendor relationships.
- May require other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years of experience in professional B2B marketing
- Experience in healthcare industry preferred
- Proven track record of working with the media, including issuing press releases, placing stories, and building relationships. A portfolio of placed stories will be requested.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Outstanding communication skills across numerous platforms including written, verbal, and multi-media (web, social and video)
- Ability to build relationships across multiple groups and communicate effectively with both upper management and peers
- Highly strategic with the ability to interpret ideas, needs or concepts and deliver stories that communicates the message effectively
- Excellent writer, proofreader, and copy editor
- Exceptional project management skills and experience with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Self-starter who can work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prepare accurate budgets and effectively manage expenses
- Solid business acumen, management, and problem-solving skills
