AV Trainer / Technician
Role Overview: The AV Trainer / Technician serves a dual purpose within the organization: as a trainer responsible for preparing future Audio-Visual (AV) Technicians and as an operational AV Technician when not engaged in training activities. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, effective communication skills, and a commitment to fostering professional growth. Occasional travel, potentially lasting several weeks, is a requirement for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Training Program Development: Design and deliver comprehensive training programs for aspiring AV Technicians, incorporating hands-on practice, theoretical instruction, and assessments.
- Resource Creation: Develop and maintain training materials, guides, and documentation to support learning objectives.
- Trainee Evaluation: Monitor and assess trainee performance, providing constructive feedback and targeted support to ensure competency.
- Technology Updates: Stay informed about the latest AV and IT technologies, incorporating relevant updates into training materials and studio operations.
- AV Equipment Setup: Configure and install AV and IT equipment in studios based on Broadcast Engineer plans.
- Camera Installation: Assemble and install professional video cameras, including lenses, monitors, and power supplies, ensuring proper functionality.
- Studio Wiring and Cable Management: Run and manage low-voltage video, audio, and network cabling; test, troubleshoot, and manage cables (e.g., SDI, XLR, Ethernet) for optimal performance.
- Lighting Installation: Install professional studio lighting fixtures and modifiers in line with lighting plans; basic Chroma Key knowledge is a plus.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, implementing alternative solutions to minimize downtime.
- Flexible Scheduling: Work shifts, including nights, to ensure seamless operation of studio facilities.
Requirements:
- Technical Proficiency: Proven experience in assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing AV and IT hardware.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Teaching Experience: Experience in mentoring, training, or teaching, preferably in a technical or AV-related field.
- Test Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with multimeters and basic understanding of AC/DC circuitry.
- Operating Systems: Competence in configuring and installing Windows and Linux operating systems.
- AV Expertise: Hands-on experience with audio/visual equipment, including television control room environments and Chroma Key technology.
- Cable Management Skills: Proficiency in handling, testing, and troubleshooting cabling systems.
- Learning Orientation: Demonstrated willingness to stay updated on evolving technologies and enhance technical skills.

- Interpersonal Skills: Patience, adaptability, and enthusiasm for knowledge-sharing and team development.
- Peripheral Device Expertise: Experience in setting up computer peripherals and drivers.
- Video & Sound Knowledge: Basic experience operating video cameras, microphones, and audio mixers.
- Chroma Key Experience: Familiarity with basic Chroma Key technology is advantageous.
Work Environment: The role includes a mix of classroom-style training and hands-on technical tasks in studio settings. Flexibility to work dynamic schedules, including nights, is required to ensure seamless operations.
