Position Title: Director – Materials Management                                                                      

Location: Glen Mills, PA.

Reports To:  COO

POSITION SUMMARY DISCRIPTION

The Director - Materials Management supervises and coordinates the day to day activities of employees in the Materials Management / Purchasing Department at the company’s two locations. Manages and directs purchase planning, inventory control and utilization of materials, supplies and equipment for the facility. Emphasizes cost effective utilization, regulates efficient inventory levels for distribution and production and maintains vendor relationships.  Prepares, reviews and tracks purchase orders thru the ERP system, inputs changes into the purchasing system, including inventory purchase orders, item planning parameters, price changes and system updates.  Execute the sourcing requirements for NPD projects by working with marketing, sales and finance to maximize return. Lead or assist Operations in execution of ad hoc projects. Work with sourcing and purchasing leadership to execute supply chain consolidation.  Negotiate contractual and commercial terms.  Assess and Recommend supplier capabilities. Develop bench strength of departmental staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the day to day operations for material planning, new product sourcing and/or supplier quality management resources. 
  • Accountable for inventory availability impacting On time delivery and overall fill rate
  • Accountable to inventory availability supporting production
  • Responsible to ERP system parameter management and material planning performance
  • Project management of specific sourcing initiatives in close co-operation with Engineering, Marketing and Sales
  • Generation of project plan and agree content with Stakeholders.
  • Ensure project progress is in line with requirements of plan.
  • Contribution of appropriate personal expertise to facilitate the delivery of the project.
  • Introduction of specific expertise where required
  • Assessing strategic sourcing decisions such as outsourcing through data driven financial return analysis.
  • Develop regional supply-base expertise - maintain a broad view and strong understanding of regional supply opportunities and specialty capabilities, ensuring the business benefits from lowest total costs at acceptable and manageable levels of risk.
  • Identify and recommend potential suppliers – lead team to qualify against Company’s requirements.
  • Facilitate transfer of definitive purchasing specification from Business Unit to supplier.
  • Conduct or facilitate supplier price and contractual negotiations.
  • Supplier development - utilizing best practice tools and techniques including assessment, improvement and measurement processes.
  • Drive cost-down and supply process improvement initiatives on a multi-functional basis. Work closely with Quality Assurance colleagues in particular to ensure effective quality management as a high priority and quality compliance is achieved and maintained.
  • Assist in resolving supply issues, proactively recommending and driving improvement activity to avoid recurrence.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Possess a balance of both commercial (business) skills and technical expertise, ideally from a purchasing background with experience of working in the Chinese and/or South East Asian supplier base.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of ERP system management and planning (preferably Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Demonstrated success in inventory management through ERP system utilization as one source of information for all functions (customer service, sales, marketing, finance, etc)
  • Strong communication skills – effective at all levels of both supplier and organizations.
  • Effective project management skills, including associated tools and techniques.
  • Required > 5 -years’ experience in Supply Chain management
  • Good working knowledge quality assurance standards, tools and statistical techniques.
  • Sound understanding of international logistics.
  • Sound understanding of business finance principles and processes
  • Possess a balance of both commercial (business) skills and technical expertise, ideally from a purchasing background with experience of working in the Chinese and/or South East Asian supplier base.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or similar discipline
  • Preferred, APICS CPIM or CPSM        

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient with PC application software.
  • Willing and able to travel frequently to company facilities and supplier locations.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Pass background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation: PPG will provide a competitive base salary, along with an opportunity to earn a success bonus. Relocation assistance available.
