Job Description_________________________________________________

This is a two-year trainee position that is intended to train an individual to be a successful Broiler Manager and to assist the Broiler Technical Service Team in the execution of best broiler management practices.  This individual will work collaboratively with members of the Live Technical Services Team, Complex Leadership, Veterinarians, and Nutritionists.

***This is one position that will be based at one of Pilgrim’s live operations facilities. This is NOT a remote position!

Development Plan___________________________________________________________________

The development plan will be structured as follows:

  • First 6 months working directly with the Head of Broiler Technical Services, including traveling to complexes, attending industry and internal meetings, and completing training as required by the developmental plan.
  • The following 6 months working as guided by the Head of Broiler Technical Services, with approximately half of the candidate’s time spent directly with his/her supervisor.
  • 12 months working and traveling independently, but as directed by Head of Broiler Technical Services with an emphasis on improving broiler performance.

 

Summary____________________________________________________________________________

  • Develop knowledge and skills necessary to successfully transition to the Broiler Manager role or provide backup to Broiler Manager(s), as needed. 
  • Develop proficient knowledge of Pilgrim’s Broiler Programs and Best Management Practices.
  • This position will support Head of Broiler Services in oversight and proficient execution of Broiler Programs throughout the organization.   The primary goal is to ensure the efficient and effective operation within all 26 complexes. 
  • This position will report to the Head of Broiler Technical Services and will be located at a location suitable for the candidate and Pilgrim’s.  
  • Individual shall be a member of Pilgrim’s technical services team, and will participate in meetings, presentations, and special assignments as needed.
  • Ability to travel to Pilgrim’s locations, which will be a combination of automobile and air travel.

 

Responsibilities______________________________________________________________________

  • Develop skills & knowledge necessary for successful transition to Broiler Manager.  
    1. Develop skills and knowledge necessary to effectively implement Pilgrim’s Broiler Program(s).
      • Pilgrim’s Brooding Management Program
      • Standard Controller Operations
      • Ventilation Programs (based on bird size)
        • Successful completion of summer and winter ventilation training
      • Lighting Programs (based on bird size)
      • Waterline / Drinker Management
      • Litter Management
      • Broiler Bird Health Evaluations
      • General knowledge of Pilgrim’s Broiler Grower Agreements
      • Packers & Stockyard Regulatory Requirements
    2. Support Broiler Technical Services, providing on-site training of best practices for Broiler Managers & Broiler Service Techs.  
    3. Computer development of farm templates and user applications to support our overall vision of record keeping (M-tech).
    4. Support initiatives that strive for improvement of Pilgrim’s approach to Broiler Management.  This includes updates to the Broiler Manual, SOPs, etc.
    5. Support Boiler technical services in implementation of Best Management Practices.
    6. Assist in planning meetings and educational programs for managers and field techs.
    7. Attend other company meetings, functions, which may involve travel, as needed and required.
    8. Utilize resources to provide analytical analysis, identifying best practices as well as continued opportunity for improvement.  
  • Develop Knowledge of Live Planning
    1. Develop knowledge of Live Planning, to ensure adequate supply of eggs, chicks, and birds throughout Live Supply Chain.
    2. Develop knowledge of Live Planning in meeting certification and regulatory standards (i.e. NPIP standards, PVP Certifications, etc). 
  • Support Tech Services Team on special projects.

 

Required Education and Experience_____________________________________________

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in applicable field or qualifying field experience.  (Agriculture Degree Preferred).  
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Basic accounting skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to travel at least 75% of the time while in the program.
  • Ability to take on difficult tasks and learn from them.
  • Ability to work with Live Production & Tech Services on a daily basis.
