Position Summary

The Egg Handler is responsible for collecting, handling, and transferring eggs to trays and coolers while ensuring proper egg-handling procedures are followed. This position also involves monitoring bird houses, maintaining cleanliness standards, and removing mortality as needed to support flock health and production efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transfer eggs into trays and place trays onto egg buggies.
  • Push full egg buggies into egg coolers.
  • Load and transfer eggs to designated cooler areas.
  • Walk poultry houses regularly to identify and remove mortality.
  • Return eggs found outside nesting areas to the appropriate nests.
  • Monitor and address egg jams as necessary.
  • Clean and disinfect the egg room on a weekly basis.
  • Follow all egg-handling, biosecurity, and culling procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Assume responsibility for assigning work and meeting schedules within the work group in the absence of the supervisor or lead person.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of egg-handling procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to add and subtract.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
  • Ability to work in agricultural and poultry production environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions associated with poultry operations.

Biosecurity Requirements

Due to strict biosecurity measures, applicants cannot own or have regular contact with feathered animals, including poultry or pet birds.
