Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

 

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Biomedical Technician to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our medical equipment and technologies. The Biomedical Technician will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and functionality of medical devices, assisting in the improvement of patient care and healthcare outcomes. The ideal candidate should possess a strong technical background, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for advancing healthcare through technician. The Biomedical technician will be based in Koidu, travelling and provide support to other sites as required.

80% plus of the activities are in KGH, MCOE and HC supported, BME should be on top of the work on a daily basis.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of biomedical equipment, including diagnostic machines, therapeutic devices, and medical imaging equipment.

 

Calibration and Testing: Conduct regular calibration and testing of medical equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

 

Repairs and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair malfunctioning biomedical equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime.

 

Quality Assurance: Implement and adhere to quality control procedures to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of biomedical equipment, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.

 

Documentation: Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections, including documentation of any modifications or upgrades made to the biomedical equipment.

 

Training and Education: Provide training to healthcare staff on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of biomedical equipment to enhance user proficiency and minimize errors.

 

Inventory Management: Manage and track inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies needed for biomedical equipment maintenance and repairs, ensuring that necessary resources are available.

 

Compliance with Regulations: Stay informed about and ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and guidelines relevant to biomedical equipment, such as those set by regulatory bodies like the FDA.

 

Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond promptly to emergency situations involving critical biomedical equipment failures, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety.

 

Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on technological advancements in the field of biomedical engineering, and actively seek opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and adopt new technologies for better patient care.

Technical Proficiency: Possess a strong technical skill set to effectively diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of biomedical equipment, including diagnostic machines, life support systems, and medical imaging devices.

 

Analytical Skills: Demonstrate strong analytical abilities to identify and solve complex problems related to biomedical equipment, utilizing logical reasoning and systematic troubleshooting methodologies.

 

Attention to Detail: Exhibit a high level of attention to detail in performing routine maintenance, calibration, and documentation tasks to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of biomedical equipment.

 

Communication Skills: Effectively communicate with healthcare professionals, equipment users, and colleagues, both verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to convey technical information in a clear and understandable manner and provide training to non-technical staff.

 

Adaptability and Learning Agility: Stay abreast of advancements in medical technology and maintain a willingness to learn and adapt to new equipment, tools, and methodologies. The ability to quickly grasp and apply new information is crucial in the rapidly evolving field of biomedical engineering.

Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in biomedical technician or medical equipment maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of medical equipment, devices, and their operating principles.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and guidelines applicable to medical devices.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools, test equipment, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to technical challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for interactions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
