Position Title: Associate, U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit, Technical Guidance
Reports to: Manager, Research & Implementation Science, U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit
Location: United States, Remote  
Position Type: Full-time through April 2021 (may include evenings and weekends)  

Project Overview:  
Leveraging PIH’s experience and lessons learned from our COVID contact tracing collaboration with the state of Massachusetts, and our 30 years of global work in emergency epidemic response and health systems strengthening, PIH has launched a new team to accompany U.S. states, cities and community partners in rapidly scaling up contact tracing and building more equitable and effective public health responses to COVID-19 in the US. 

The U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit team works to accompany public sector and community partners on the frontlines of the public health response to COVID-19, to address this acute-on-chronic public health crisis, by providing technical assistance and knowledge sharing platforms to accelerate implementation of effective, equitable COVID-19 responses. Our approach to providing technical assistance to different public sector and community partners in the United States includes providing expertise and advice on design and implementation, incorporating an equity lens into execution, and creating a community of partners across the US to share best practices and challenges in order to fortify efforts amidst the national response to COVID-19.

Position Overview  
The Associate is responsible for navigating the multitude of workstreams that the US COVID-19 Learning Team takes on and establishing a coordination mechanism. The role requires great diplomacy, discretion, resourcefulness and flexibility. This role presents an opportunity to work across a diverse range of people within and outside of the organization and to develop skills in service to a fast- paced, global organization that is relentlessly committed to improving the health of the poor and marginalized. The Associate works closely with the Senior Associate, Research & Implementation Science Manager, Senior Technical Lead, Deputy Director of the Learning Collaborative, and other Technical Experts.  

 

Responsibilities  
Project Support  

  • Provide project management support to the Learning Team, as well as the Technical Advising Teams on an as needed basis.  
  • Track follow up and task assignments, managing up when necessary to ensure timely deliverables.  
  • On an ad-hoc basis, and at the discretion of their manager, provide short-term program support for other teams as needed.  
  • Conduct background research and synthesis on a variety of established and emerging topics.  
  • Support updating of policy briefs and policy and advocacy work plans and frameworks in alignment with US national accompaniment strategy.
  • Collect and track media updates on Covid-19
  • Support the design and implementation of convenings offered by the Learning Team

Administrative Support  

  • Respond to inquiries and correspondences in a timely fashion and serve as a knowledgeable resource for staff and partners on the various workstreams within the department.  
  • Coordinate team projects as needed, including document preparation, logistics management and timeline accountability.  
  • Manage calendar for team and senior leadership, including scheduling, preparing and circulating materials, and follow up for meetings.  
  • Collaborate with Coordinators and Associates within other teams and departments to optimize workflow and enhance continuity and transparency across the organization.  
  • Serve as note-taker during meetings and track all objectives and follow up.  
  • Assist with booking and managing travel logistics for senior team members, as needed.  
  • Assist with inputting and tracking expenses within the team’s budget.  
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree; 1-2 years of related experience preferred.  
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.  
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders across departments and country sites.  
  • Fluency in the functional use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the capability to master new software applications and technologies as needed.  
  • Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity.  
  • Enthusiasm for advocacy, policy, and social justice movement building is a plus.  
  • Commitment to social justice.
