Position Overview

The Driver is responsible for safely transporting staff, visitors, goods, and materials to designated locations while ensuring adherence to all traffic rules, organizational transport policies, and safety standards. The role supports efficient operations by maintaining vehicles in excellent condition and ensuring timely movement to facilitate program implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Driving & Transportation Duties

  • Provide safe, courteous, and timely transportation services to staff, visitors, and guests.
  • Drive assigned vehicles to various destinations as scheduled or requested by supervisors.
  • Ensure all movements are logged in the vehicle logbook (daily mileage, fuel, destinations, and passengers).
  • Adhere to all Sierra Leone road safety rules and organizational transport guidelines.
  • Provide pick-up and drop-off services for staff at designated points when required.
  • Support field activities by transporting materials, supplies, and equipment.

Vehicle Care & Maintenance

  • Conduct daily vehicle checks (fuel, oil, water, tire pressure, brakes, lights, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher).
  • Keep vehicles clean (interior and exterior) at all times.
  • Report any mechanical issues, faults, or damages immediately to your supervisor.
  • Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of the vehicle as scheduled.
  • Ensure the vehicle is always secured when parked.

Compliance, Safety & Documentation

  • Maintain up-to-date vehicle documents (insurance, registration, fitness).
  • Ensure logbook entries are accurate and submitted monthly.
  • Follow organizational policies on vehicle usage, security, defensive driving, and PSEAH guidelines.
  • Ensure all passengers adhere to safety measures (e.g., wearing seatbelts).
  • Respect confidentiality, safeguarding policies, and professional conduct at all times.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Provide logistical support such as delivering documents, parcels, supplies, and procurement items.
  • Assist with loading and offloading materials when needed.
  • Support fuel management processes: collecting fuel receipts and documenting fuel consumption.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with operational needs.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Valid Sierra Leone driver’s license for vehicle class required.
  • Proven experience driving long distances and in difficult terrain (rural areas).
  • Good understanding of road networks and routes across Sierra Leone.
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting.

 

  • Experience working with INGOs, medical facilities, or humanitarian organizations is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for completing forms and logbooks( BECE)
