Position Title: Program Officer, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Services

Reports to: Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Quality and Health Systems Strengthening

Location: Boston, MA, with 10% travel

Full-Time: Full time (1 year renewable)

Position Overview:

In collaboration with key partners including Boston Children’s hospital, Partners in Health is leading an effort to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) across all care delivery sites. The Program Officer will be responsible for supporting the administrative and financial aspects of the RMNCH initiative. The Program Officer will work closely with Boston based support teams, technical advisors, and care-delivery sites on the development and implementation of RMNCH work plans, education and skill building programs, and research initiatives. This position involves programmatic and development work, and will require collaboration with public and private sector partners. Additionally, this position will provide technical support to RMNCH program staff in policy and programming in maternal and child health services and will be involved in quality improvement and health system strengthening efforts across PIH supported sites.

This person will report to the PIH's Deputy Chief Medical Officer and with close collaboration with monitoring and evaluation, communication and nursing teams.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong administrative or program management background, with experience in the field of reproductive, maternal, or neonatal health, experience living and working in low resource settings, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, producing high quality outcomes, should be comfortable working with, collaborating, and coordinating culturally diverse colleagues, basic familiarity with grant and program development.

 

Specific responsibilities

  • Support RMNCH leadership throughout the design and implementation of essential activities including program development and evaluation, and continuous quality improvement
  • Track and monitor the release of funding opportunities that align with RMNCH priority areas from a variety of funding sources, including large multi-national funding mechanisms, private foundations, and academic institutions
  • Support proposal development processes related to RMNCH and all internal and external inputs related to such proposals
  • Maintain cross-site communication and knowledge management platforms
  • Manage internal processes of Boston-based RMNCH leadership, including technical and financial request and expense reporting
  • Support the design of implementation research interventions to enhance the quality of reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health care and evidence- based practice
  • Assist RMNCH leadership with specific academic and clinical partnerships
  • Support the development and dissemination of impact statements and other resources needed for internal and external RMNCH partnerships
  • Write concept notes and prepare content for speaking engagements, communications with stakeholders and other writing for communication and advocacy
  • Maintain regular meeting/call schedule with various stakeholder
  • Capture notes and action items and spearhead follow up
  • Coordinate global RMNCH calls and regular communication with RMNCH teams

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred. Experience in public health, public administration, health care management, or international development highly desirable.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating clinical improvement projects in low-resource settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one major priority areas (clinical practice, health systems strengthening, medical education) highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one major technical area (reproductive health, maternal health, neonatal health, child health) highly desirable.
  • Fluency in French or Spanish strongly preferred. Language skills in Creole highly desired.
  • Strong writing skills, experience with scientific writing and dissemination of scholarly work a plus
  • Budget development and management experience required.
  • High level of comfort analyzing, interpreting, and organizing quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, especially the ability to plan, organize, and follow through with a variety of constituencies, handle multiple assignments, prioritize workflow, adapt to fluctuating workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as work cooperatively with diverse team.
  • Excellent computer skills, including fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) programs.
