JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides high-quality, coordinated, comprehensive, team-based, and patient-centered care for patients of The Queen’s Health Systems’ hospitals and clinic, and other hospitals and clinics, as applicable, in the area of maternal fetal medicine.
  • Engages in academic medical/clinical education, training, supervision, and evaluation and research.
  • Works cooperatively within collaborative practice models.
  • Supports The Queen’s Medical Center’s (QMC) vision and values to enhance the provision of quality health care and optimize the health status of QMC patients, and supports QMC’s Mission to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawai`i.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
CLINICAL: 
  • Diagnoses, treats, monitors, and manages various medical conditions, disorders, diseases, and problems within the area of maternal fetal medicine.
  • Performs routine and emergent maternal fetal medicine procedures, as necessary.
  • Performs obstetric ultrasounds to detect and manage fetal and maternal conditions during pregnancy.
  • Provides outpatient and inpatient inter-departmental consultation, as requested.
  • Provides on-call maternal fetal medicine services, as directed, and responds to calls in accordance with QMC Medical Staff Bylaws, QMC Medical Staff rules and regulations, QMC Medical Staff Department Rules and Regulations, and/or specialty privileges.
  • Explores the social and environmental factors which affect an individual’s overall health and well-being and cares for the whole patient using the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice.
  • Applies evidence-based medicine to make recommendations to patients.
  • Works collaboratively, involves subspecialists and other health care professionals, involves caregivers and other family members, as appropriate.

ACADEMIC: 

  • Provides clinical education and bedside teaching via supervision and onsite teaching of Obstetrics and Gynecology fellows, residents, medical students, other health care students and professionals. 
  • Supervises/mentors/advises assigned fellows, residents, medical students, and other health care students and health care professionals. 
  • Provides lectures, didactics, CME, simulation to fellows, residents, medical students, other health care students and professionals, and community organizations, as assigned. 
  • Evaluates learners in a timely manner providing constructive feedback that contributes to the growth of the learner. 
  • Attends required meetings, conferences and participates on committees. 
  • Commits to developing and supporting innovative educational and clinical programs. 
  • Supports research endeavors by facilitating research recruitment in the clinical setting. 
  • Mentor learners on case reports, as applicable.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or ECFMG certification
  • Completion of a residency or fellowship training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
  • Completion of a fellowship training program in Maternal Fetal Medicine approved by the ACGME, AOA, or ABOG.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current board certifications in 1) Obstetrics and Gynecology and 2) Maternal Fetal Medicine, by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty certification board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA or the ABOG, if not board certified, board certification must be obtained within four (4) years of entrance into the position

EXPERIENCE:

  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC Medical Staff in good standing with appropriate privileges, without restriction.
  • Appointment as clinical faculty or compensated faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).  If not appointed as clinical faculty or compensated faculty of JABSOM, faculty appointment must be obtained within six (6) months
Base salary begins at $458,164/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
