Summary: The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing daily pharmacy operations, including medication dispensing, staff management, regulatory compliance, inventory control, financial management, and ensuring excellent patient care. The Pharmacy Manager will serve as the primary liaison between the pharmacy and other health center departments.
Areas of Responsibility
Pharmacy Operations:
- Must be willing and eligible to sign the Power of Attorney and become the designated Pharmacist-in- Charge as required by the California Board of Pharmacy.
- Manage day-to-day pharmacy operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee the scheduling of pharmacy staff, verify and approve timesheets, and maintain accurate attendance records.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Board of Pharmacy standards and 340B program requirements.
- Act as a primary liaison between pharmacy staff, healthcare providers, nursing, and other clinic departments to integrate pharmacy services effectively.
- Oversee medication inventory management, including ordering, receiving, storage, and handling, ensuring inventory controls and reducing medication wastage.
- Ensure the pharmacy maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation for auditing and
compliance purposes.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing pharmacy operations and patient care services.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of performance metrics to ensure alignment with
organizational goals. - Participate actively in leadership meetings, interdepartmental collaborations, and strategic planning processes.
Financial Management:
- Manage pharmacy departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Monitor pharmacy financial performance, including budgeting, inventory control, cost management, and profitability.
- Regularly review financial reports and propose corrective actions to address financial variances and improve efficiency.
Staff Management and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop pharmacy staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation,
disciplinary actions, and terminations. - Foster a positive and inclusive working environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.
- Ensure all pharmacy personnel meet competency requirements through ongoing education and training programs.
Clinical and Patient Care Services:
- Promote clinical pharmacy services including immunization services, medication therapy management (MTM), patient education, and provider consultation.
- Ensure staff pharmacists are actively involved in patient care activities, drug therapy monitoring, and medication counseling.
- Lead efforts to optimize clinical pharmacy practices, enhance patient education, and improve
medication adherence. - Collaborate closely with providers to streamline and expedite prior authorization processes.
Education/Experience
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience as a pharmacy manager in an outpatient, retail, or community pharmacy setting required.
- Must have working knowledge of 340B or able to complete 340B University within 90 days of hiring required
Licenses and Certifications:
- Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license with the State of California required.
- Must have current immunization certificate (APhA program) or obtain it within 90 days of hiring
required. - Active Basic Life Support certification required.
- Candidate must be able to successfully meet PHC’s credentialing and privileging requirements
Language Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) professional with extensive experience in capacity building, trauma responsive service delivery, and program evaluation preferred. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and requests from patients, coworkers, and others as necessary. Ability to effectively communicate direction, instruction, and guidance to pharmacists, pharmacy technician, pharmacy clerks and other healthcare providers.
