We are currently searching for an Accounting Manager with a passion for best practices, innovation, and problem solving to join our collaborative Finance & Accounting Team at our San Marco headquarters in Jacksonville! This individual will be a results-driven self-starter with strong analytical skills and will oversee a team of two to four accountants. They will help develop, coach, and mentor staff to strengthen technical expertise, judgment, and ownership of responsibilities.

 

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the organization’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP. This role partners closely with the Assistant Controller and leads day-to-day accounting activities, month-end close, and process improvements while mentoring staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timeliness and accuracy
  • Review financial statements and supporting schedules for completeness and compliance with GAAP
  • Prepare and review internal and external financial reports
  • Establishing and maintaining internal controls
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends, and investigate variances
  • Prepare and analyze monthly balance sheet and income statement variances, identifying trends, risks, and unusual fluctuations
  • Investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner and communicate findings to the Controller and finance leadership
  • Build bench strength through effective coaching, cross-training, and knowledge sharing
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in communications with external auditors and assist with audit preparation
  • Key point of contact with external tax providers
  • Lead and supervise team of staff accountants
  • Review work performed by team members and provided constructive feedback
  • Partner cross-functionally with Payroll, AP, AR, and Operations
  • Support the Assistant Controller and VP of Finance with special projects and process improvements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, with at least 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of public accounting and private industry general ledger experience
  • Proficiency with US GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Dynamics, or similar)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including proficiency with Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Experience with month-end close and audit support
  • CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
  • Experience in hospitality accounting and finance including revenue recognition, cost controls, and high-volume transactional environments strongly preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with all levels of the organization, including corporate team, regional and resort/clinic-level management, and outside vendors and auditors
  • Prior leadership experience managing a team of at least two direct reports
  • Skilled at prioritizing, multitasking, collaborating, effectively communicating, and making informed decisions
  • Organized, detail-oriented team player who can work independently as needed
  • Willingness to work occasional extended hours during close and key deadlines
  • Work onsite in an office environment at Pet Paradise HQ, which is located in the San Marco area of Jacksonville
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship and ability to pass a criminal background check
