This role will provide environmental health and safety (EHS) engineering support and expertise through the design, development, and maintenance of EHS standards and regulatory compliance, leads the Industrial Hygiene program for the site and supports continuous improvement efforts related to EHS.  

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots and resolves EHS issues; supports site EHS and department objectives through management consulting; training and development; inspections; audits and investigations; ergonomic reviews; environmental regulatory evaluations and committee assignments related to EHS.
  • Lead the Industrial Hygiene program at the site and support the continuous improvement of the Hazard Control Program including:
    • Hazard Control Plans for new and existing products and processes
    • Industrial Hygiene sampling and assessments SDS/OHC (Occupational Health Category) library management
    • Assess new products and existing products and practices to ensure employee safety and good environmental practices
  • Support the company’s hazardous waste management program as necessary.
    • Hazardous waste program management/training
  • Maintain external regulatory compliance for facility.
  • Ensure all Permitting is up to date and compliant including:
    • Air permit management, tracking and submission
    • Water permit management, tracking and submission
    • Hazardous waste permit tracking, documentation and reporting
    • Storm water non-exposure exemption
  • Represent site in all environmental audits conducted by the MPCA, EPA, HCES, MCES and other regulatory bodies.
    • Responsible for the timely response of any audit observations.
  • Works closely with all areas of the organization to facilitate EHS compliance programs including writing policy, procedure and work instructions, systems monitoring and reporting, and supports ongoing training requirements.
  • Develops and prepares EHS specifications and recaps, cost estimates and rationalizations, and presents projects for approval, conducts and documents for approval or troubleshooting.
  • Participates in EHS inspections/audits and accident investigation to identify and evaluate hazards and prevent incidents, coordinates documentation activities and follow up. Provides EHS expertise to identified areas by advising of potential safety hazards and environmental requirements and correcting any deficiencies. Interfaces with management from all areas (such as Manufacturing, Laboratories, Warehouse, Engineering, etc.) to communicate hazards and recommendations of solutions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four (4) years of safety and regulatory compliance experience, preferably in food, drug, medical device or cosmetic industry. CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certificates desired
  • Experience with Gensuite or another EMIS system desired
  • Pharma background is highly desired
