 Reporting to the Automation Engineering Manager in Allegan, the automation engineer will be responsible for day-to-day system maintenance of all site automation systems as well as performing design and execution of automation projects at the Perrigo Holland Site (PMH).  This position will have a dotted line reporting relationship with the PMH Engineering Manager.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

◦Troubleshoot problems and design/implement new features to enhance machine operability, efficiency, safety, and data tracking.  Relevant systems include Allen-Bradley (and similar) PLC's and HMI's, SCADA systems, OEM-developed software, I/O subsystems, and drives/servos.

◦Support engineering, maintenance, and production staff in the design and implementation of control systems associated with equipment used to manufacture and package pharmaceutical products. 

◦Complete project functions within agreed upon time frames and budgets to ensure operations are efficiently maintained and downtime is minimized.  Participates in the change management program to evaluate the impact of proposed activities on the validation status of control systems and supports qualification/re-qualification or validation/re-validation activities to insure the validated status of affected control systems.

◦Maintain automation networks and hardware including managed switches, communications gateways, and wireless infrastructure.  Must be able to work closely with IT personnel to support and troubleshoot communications between automation systems and other enterprise-level systems.

◦Review and evaluate new equipment and systems to ensure compliance with established hardware, software, and design standards.

Knowledge, Experience, and Education:

◦Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 5 or more years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience.

◦Experience with computer validation and change management in an FDA/GMP related environment, hands-on knowledge of control system applications including hardware components, and experience and familiarity with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

◦Excellent problem-solving skills, sound decision making abilities, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a team-oriented environment.

◦Demonstrated self-confidence, ability to interface with multiple departments, consultants, and contractors, and ability to work with engineers and maintenance technicians to support control system policies and procedures.

◦Proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLC programming and hardware design, SCADA systems, control system architectures, communication networks (Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Modbus, etc.), robotics, and control system design principles.

◦Experience with Microsoft Windows operating system, Ethernet I/P communications, and networking components such as managed switches.

◦Working knowledge of AutoCAD software, and the ability to read, understand, and create drawings, flowcharts, schematics, as it relates to control system design documentation.

◦Comprehensive knowledge of control panel design and electrical controls engineering principles.

◦Ability to climb stairs, use hands to manipulate basic hand tools/hand-held equipment, and operate a motor vehicle to access various plant locations.
