Executive Director – Non-Profit for School Safety
Location: Sunnyvale, CA – West Coast candidates desired
Salary:  $150,000 - $180,000
 
Our client is a foundation committed to equipping U.S. schools with software designed to save lives during school shootings. The technology solution provides security and rapid response assistance, with the goal of making it accessible to all schools at no cost. To achieve this, they focus on establishing sustainable funding through a blend of donations, grants, and other income sources.
 
Position Summary:
Our client seeks an experienced Executive Director to spearhead the growth and sustainability of their mission. The primary responsibility is fundraising, involving outreach to major donors, grant applications, and innovative income-generating strategies. This leader will also serve as the foundation’s spokesperson, managing market acceptance, overseeing distribution to schools, and scaling the foundation’s impact.
 
The ideal candidate will have a background in SaaS technology and software, coupled with nonprofit management and a track record of successful fundraising. This position can be either full time or fractional role requiring approximately 20-30 hours per week, with flexibility based on workload demands.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Revenue Generation:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, securing funding through a combination of grants, donor cultivation, and alternative revenue streams.
  • Build relationships with potential and current donors, including corporate sponsors, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Identify and pursue grants that align with the foundation’s mission, overseeing the proposal process.
 
Strategic Leadership and Management: 
  • Act as the primary spokesperson and public advocate, representing the foundation’s mission to media, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee technology validation and market acceptance initiatives, partnering with key school security, law enforcement and emergency response influencers, educators, and administrators to drive platform adoption.
  • Collaborate with the product team to ensure the platform’s ongoing alignment with school needs and safety standards.
  • Report to and collaborate with the Board of Directors on strategic direction, financial goals, and growth initiatives.
 
Program and Impact Growth:
  • Drive adoption efforts by forming distribution partnerships with school districts, education associations, and relevant networks.
  • Analyze market impact and feedback, using data to inform future program expansion and refine distribution strategies.
  • Coordinate outreach and engagement to ensure the solution reaches the maximum number of schools and makes a measurable impact on school safety.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree or other relevant certifications a plus.
  • Proven success in a SaaS, software, or tech-oriented business setting, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Experience in nonprofit leadership, with a strong background in fundraising and donor engagement.
  • Track record of securing significant funding through multiple channels, such as grants, individual giving, and corporate partnerships.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills, with a history of serving as an organization’s representative.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a fractional role, adapting to varying demands based on organizational needs.
 
 
Compensation:
This can be a fractional or full-time position, with compensation commensurate with experience and time commitment.
