The PENTA Building Group is searching for construction Healthcare Superintendents with prior healthcare construction project experience to join our team in Phoenix, AZ!
 
The Healthcare Superintendent is responsible for the effective management of all field operations on the healthcare project they are assigned to; and, in conjunction with the Project Manager, assumes overall responsibility and accountability for all factors contributing to the success of the project. 
 
A PENTA Healthcare Superintendent will also:
  • Champion PENTA’s safety culture on all healthcare job sites, where safety and infection control are the highest priorities. This includes overseeing compliance with OSHA, hospital safety protocols, Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM), and all requirements outlined in the Corporate Safety Manual and Assignment of Responsibilities.
  • Lead the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and ensure subcontractor Job Site Safety Plans reflect the unique risks of healthcare environments, including patient proximity, occupied spaces, and sensitive equipment.
  • Able to read all drawings and healthcare-specific specifications. Identify constructability gaps and the ability to make suggestions for solutions that minimize disruptions to clinical operations.
  • Make sure that the RFI's/Submittals (Shop Drawings) on the project are pertinent, correct, and make sense.
  • Review design documents for compliance with building codes/ADA and ensure field compliance. Must understand the timing of and coordinate all field inspections including IRA, life safety, and medical gas inspections with subcontractors and attend as required.
  • Create clear and concise project PENTA daily reports. Participate in collection of subcontractor daily reports as required for project verification requirements.
  • Ensure hoisting plan meets OSHA and PENTA policies (including required critical picks and 3rd party reviews). Develop crane schedules and logistics. Review all items identified in the lift plan for compliance, crane position, rigging, outrigger pad, operator certs, before pick is made. Verify equipment onsite matches approved crane plans.
  • Coordinate procurement with the construction schedule, with special attention to long-lead healthcare items such as imaging equipment, air-handling units, medical gas components, nurse call systems, and specialized MEP equipment. Communicate schedule-impacting items promptly to the project team and Owner.
  • Review all shop drawings and submittals for accuracy including healthcare-specific systems (medical gas, DI/RO water, AHU filtration requirements, lead shielding, etc).
  • Work in tandem with the Project Manager to ensure PENTA's project start up policies and procedures are enforced.
  • Attend all pre-installation meetings and make sure that subcontractors are properly prepared.
  • Understand general construction sequence with details & approximate durations. Must be able to communicate basic flow and activities of the project to the team clearly.
  • Basic knowledge of life safety systems; lead (with assistance) all coordination and scheduling meetings. Manage all life safety testing and verify all pre-testing has been completed.
  • Understand BIM/VDC coordination basics and attend all BIM/VDC coordination meetings. Recognize design flaws and seek assistance for resolution.
  • Develop detailed project logistics plan with a heightened awareness of patient, staff, and visitor safety, coordinating with hospital facility leadership, infection control, security, and clinical teams. Have the plan review and approved by a Sr. Superintendent.
  • Participate in subcontractor de-scope meetings.
  • Understand project budgets and healthcare-specific cost drivers, including infection control, off-hours work, equipment coordination, and specialty subcontractor scopes.
  • Must understand subcontractor Exhibit A's and be able to differentiate extra work from contract work. Make sure all tickets are clearly detailed and accurate. Collect all tickets daily.
  • Maintain and build new relationships with architects, healthcare industry partners, and subcontractors. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting both project execution and the growth of PENTA’s healthcare portfolio.
We trust that you have:
  • Minimum 2-7 years of prior experience working in a construction Superintendent role, or minimum 10+ years equivalence working in a General Foreman or field related management position
  • Prior experience with LINAC (Linear Accelerator) installation and imaging is required
  • ICRA 2.0 Healthcare construction project experience is required; minimum 5 years on medium sized healthcare projects is preferred
  • Degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred
  • OSHA 10 or 30 is required
  • Fluency in reading, quantifying, and analyzing construction drawings
  • Competent understanding of construction scheduling and sequencing
  • The ability to work efficiently on fast-paced construction projects with accelerated schedules
  • Proven ability to adapt behavior or work methods in response to new information or conditions
  • Experience with follow-up and monitoring of work to ensure quality standards and attention to detail
