The PENTA Building Group is searching for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Superintendents to join our Mission Critical team in Phoenix, AZ! This role will be a major contributor to our growing efforts in the Data Center/Mission Critical market sector. A PENTA MEP Project Superintendent is responsible for managing and coordinating all field activities related to Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems on mission critical construction projects. This role ensures safe, high-quality, and efficient installation of critical infrastructure systems that support continuous uptime and reliability. Working closely with Project Management, Superintendents, and trade partners, the MEP Superintendent provides technical guidance, sequencing oversight, and quality control throughout the construction and commissioning process.

 

A PENTA MEP Superintendent on mission critical projects will also:

  • Monitor all MEP activities for adherence to company, OSHA, and NFPA 70E safety standards.
  • Ensure strict compliance with lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and arc flash protocols during MEP installation and testing.
  • Supervise and coordinate all MEP subcontractors to ensure work aligns with project schedule, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Develop and maintain MEP-specific schedules integrated with the overall project plan.
  • Review and interpret MEP drawings and specifications to identify potential design or field conflicts early.
  • Collaborate with the VDC/BIM teams to ensure MEP systems are fully integrated with architectural and structural components.
  • Anticipate critical path activities such as equipment deliveries, energization milestones, and startup testing.
  • Coordinate pre-functional testing, startup, and commissioning (Cx) activities in collaboration with commissioning agents and MEP trades.
  • Support integrated system testing (IST) readiness and verify that all pre-requisite work is complete prior to commissioning events.
  • Facilitate resolution of deficiencies or punch list items to ensure timely system turnover.
  • Conduct regular inspections of MEP installations to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Verify installations are performed to meet manufacturer requirements and support long-term reliability.
  • Maintain quality documentation and coordinate with QA/QC for system verification.
  • Lead and participate in weekly MEP coordination meetings with subcontractors, Project Managers, and design teams.
  • Track long-lead equipment, major material deliveries, and storage logistics.
  • Coordinate with project management to ensure procurement aligns with construction sequencing.
  • Provide field-level technical support for complex MEP systems including power distribution, switchgear, UPS, generators, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, controls, and plumbing systems.
  • Support installation of specialized systems such as fire suppression, BMS controls, and fuel systems.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, and as-builts for constructability and coordination.
  • Lead field efforts for mechanical and electrical startup sequences, including life safety testing.
  • Promote and enforce PENTA’s safety culture as the top priority on every mission critical project.
  • Teach and mentor field engineers, interns, and junior superintendents on MEP systems, commissioning processes, and safety procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support successful project execution.

  • 5+ years of experience in a Construction Superintendent role, or minimum 10+ years equivalence working in a General Foreman or field related management position on mission critical projects
  • Minimum 3 years of construction project experience focused in MEP construction processes and scopes, sequencing, and integration
  • Strong understanding of MEP startup, commissioning (Cx), and integrated system testing (IST) phases
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, ASHRAE, and relevant building codes
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is required
  • Degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred
  • Proficiency in utilizing programs such as P6, Bluebeam, and Autodesk Build
  • NFPA 70E training and Lockout/Tagout certification required or ability to obtain
  • Fluency in reading, quantifying, and analyzing construction drawings
  • Competent understanding of construction scheduling
