Planned Giving Coordinator

Would you enjoy building long-term relationships and helping with hikes, picnics & other events to thank donors? This is an opportunity to use your compassionate listening and interpersonal skills as well as detail-oriented mindset while serving as the primary staff contact for several hundred loyal donors to ensure they feel appreciated and continue to trust POST with their gifts. POST’s growing Development team, primarily the planned giving staff, stewards more than 550 legacy households resulting in several million dollars in revenue annually.

POST is currently a combined remote and hybrid workplace, and our policy regarding hybrid work schedules continues to evolve. We expect to maintain flexibility regarding schedules and hybrid working arrangements. The successful candidate for this job must live within a reasonable driving distance to POST lands on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the South Bay.

In this role you would:

  • Manage a portfolio of 275+ planned giving and 200+ long-time donors: serving as their primary POST contact, thanking them for their gifts, sending periodic program updates, maps & event invites
  • Support planning, administrative work and execution of dozens of events throughout the year including picnics, walks, hikes on protected lands, small group lunches at restaurants or donor homes, and large luncheons
  • Under the direction of the Director of Planned Giving, manages production of and develops mailing list for planned giving print & email marketing
  • Serves as primary resource to Development team for planned giving related Salesforce database data entry, reference and reporting
  • Maintains Planned Giving group program metrics, oversees research on legacy members & prospects 

Overall, it is estimated that 80% of your time would be spent on preparing to, engaging with or documenting one-on-one or one-to-many contact with donors, 5% on marketing, and 15% on program data, analysis and general support

 

For the best opportunity to succeed in this role, you would have:

  • Warm, engaging and empathetic communication and interpersonal skills to connect with individuals of diverse identities, in particular people age 65 and older, while understanding that there will often be no immediate response to your outreach
  • Two years of relevant or transferrable professional experience in fundraising/development, relationship management, legal or customer service is essential
  • Familiarity with or genuine desire to learn and share knowledge about Bay Area preserves and geography, the natural world, land conservation and land management

  • Knowledge of or interest in learning about ways to support charitable causes beyond checks and stock gifts
  • Experience with Microsoft Word & Excel, Google Suite and Salesforce or demonstrated skills with similar tools and ability to learn new applications
  • Experience prioritizing between tasks as well as handling concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail including handling confidential information
  • Able to work well with others and occasionally work under pressure in a professional manner
  • Valid California Driver’s License and insurable driving record required
  • College degree or related work experience 

This job has the following physical requirements

  • Regular and accurate communication with others and completion of work tasks involving the use of phone, computer, web, and video technology, the ability to interact effectively with digital, printed and hand-written materials, and to manipulate required job-related event supplies
  • Ability to drive a vehicle to remote locations for events and donor visits.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. of equipment and supplies in the office or the field.
  • Ability to traverse uneven or rough terrain (several times a month, typically < 8 miles/day), and to tolerate exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.
  • There are occasional events that occur outside regular working hours.

STARTING SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION:
