Senior Donor Engagement Manager

 

Would you be excited by an opportunity to create and deepen relationships with hundreds of new and existing supporters of our open space protection efforts throughout the region?

 

The Senior Donor Engagement Manager is a key participant on POST’s fundraising team and offers a chance to manage a portfolio of mid-level and major donors with the goal of retaining and increasing their giving over time and identifying donors with major gift capacity who want a deeper connection with POST in helping to advance our work.

POST is currently a hybrid (combined in-office and remote) workplace, and our policy regarding hybrid work schedules continues to evolve. We expect to maintain flexibility regarding schedules and hybrid working arrangements. The successful candidate for this job must live within a reasonable driving distance to POST’s Palo Alto office and our lands on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the South Bay.

In this role you would:

  • Manage relationships with 300+ mid-level and major donors in a portfolio that is expected to grow in value significantly over time.
  • Implement a system of mid-level and major donor qualification and engagement known as The Veritus Way.
  • Cultivate, steward and solicit donors with active communication via phone, email, US mail and face-to-face.
  • Adapt or create personal and targeted touchpoints for donors based on their passions and interests.
  • Identify donors who want deeper engagement and develop personal relationships to hopefully result in increased annual, capital and/or planned gifts.
  • Develop or use existing hikes, outings, or other ways to engage donors in creative ways. Participate in outings, provide administrative support as needed.
  • Promptly acknowledge gifts from portfolio donors and other prospects who are mid-level or major donor candidates, paying special attention to donors who would bring racial and ethnic diversity to our donor base.

 

For the best opportunity to succeed in this role, you would have:

 

  • At least four years of experience in development with an emphasis on donor relations, donor database engagement, donor events or other similar roles in increasingly responsible positions in development.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deepen and sustain positive relationships with donors or clients.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent phone, written and interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop relationships over time.
  • Genuine curiosity in people, an interest in engaging donors, and uncovering their passions and interests. 
  • Highly self-motivated with ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Commitment to and knowledge of environmental and conservation issues or willingness to learn.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and insurable driving record required.
  • College degree or related experience preferred.

 

This job has the following physical requirements:

 

  • Regular and accurate communication with others and completion of work tasks involving the use of phone, computer, web, and video technology, the ability to interact effectively with digital, printed and hand-written materials, and to manipulate required job-related event supplies
  • Ability to drive a vehicle to remote locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. of equipment and supplies in the office or the field.
  • Ability to hike uneven or rough terrain, and to tolerate exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.
  • There are occasional duties that occur outside regular working hours, including evenings and weekends.

STARTING SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION:
