 Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist Veterinarian:
    • Perform routine laboratory analysis including hematology, serology, blood chemistry, urinalysis and process fecal samples
    • Perform routine dental cleanings
    • Administer oral drugs, colonic irrigation, wound dressing and fluid therapy
    • Perform emergency procedures including control bleeding, administer parenteral fluids and pharmacological agents under veterinary supervision, resuscitate with oxygen; establish open airway intubation; perform external cardiac massage; apply temporary bandage or splints; provide external supportive treatment of wounds; burns and heat prostration
    • Fill prescription requests
    • Take radiographs and send out for diagnostics
  • Pre-Surgery:
    • Check / make appointment for pre-op blood work within 7-10 days before surgery.
    • Send pre-op blood work out to lab with blue, lavender and tiger top tubes – lab request Pre-op with PT & PTT option.
    • Pull all surgery files
    • Print and attach Surgery Consent Form to client file
    • Make all pre surgery calls with pre op instructions and initial that call was made
  • Surgery:
    • Set-up the operating room
    • Check surgical machines and equipment
    • Prepare patients for surgery
    • Administer anesthesia
    • Monitor patient’s vital signs
    • Recovery
  • Post-Surgery:
    • Call owner to update on patient’s progress.
    • Complete any lab forms for send out diagnostics
    • Put in charges
    • Clean surgery suite
    • Clean surgery equipment and sterilize
    • Stock surgical supplies
    • Complete post-op instructions for client
    • Fulfill any go home medications
    • Log controlled medicines
    • Get patients ready for discharge
    • Discharge patient with surgeon.
    • Make post-surgery calls within 2 days of surgery
