We provide all aspects of dentistry from routine dental exams and equilibration to advanced dentistry such as fillings, endodontics, periodontal therapies, and oral surgery. The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for a variety of supporting tasks within the veterinary practice. These tasks include animal handling/restraining, processing laboratory work, cleaning and sterilizing equipment/facility, and a variety of tasks assisting both the veterinary technicians and DVMs.

Midwest Veterinary Dental Services is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.
- Preferred: High school graduate or equivalent
- Preferred: 2 years veterinary office or other related experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Must be able to learn and utilize various veterinary software applications
- The ability to operate a computer, including basic typing skills
- Proficient operation of various office equipment (copier, scanner, fax machine)
- Basic filing skills
- Effective client interaction and patient education
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Effective in multi-tasking (prioritizing and accomplishing tasks)
- Effectively handle stressful situations
- Efficiently execute tasks given both verbally and written in English
- The ability to maintain a positive work environment
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- The ability to work collectively with team members
- Patient care to include restraining, handling, and lifting of animals
- Administering medications (oral, SQ, IM, IV) to patients
- Maintain patient records and record client communications
- Process and submit lab work
- IV catheter placement and venipuncture
- Responsible for handing, dispensing, administering, and logging controlled substances.
- Maintain and operate equipment
- Surgically assist veterinary technicians and DVMs
- Clean, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and surgical supplies (gowns, towels, etc.)
- Ability to perform dental prophylaxis
- Ability to perform intraoral dental radiographs
- Facility maintenance of kennels, floors, trash, restrooms, laundry, etc. (such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, etc.)
- Lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds from floor level and above at least several times per day
- The ability to work in a stationary position at a computer for long periods of time
- The ability to stand, walk, sit, crawl, stoop, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and climb for long periods of time
- The ability to physically restrain all sizes of pets on the floor and on the exam table
- Must be able to reach, grasp, hold, and manipulate objects
- Possess vision abilities to detect, observe and assess, including close, distance, color, reading comprehension, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Potential for exposure to anesthetic gases, fumes and radiation with proper protective measures
- The ability to work in an environment containing constant, intermittent and normal office environment noise
- Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases and animal/human –borne pathogens
