As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients. 
Role Responsibilities:  
  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients during outpatient appointments. 
  • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow. 
  • Obtain pertinent health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts. 
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems. 
  • Perform basic nursing skills such as taking vital signs, performing nail trims, anal gland expression, venipuncture and administering injections.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. 
  • Prepare patients, medications and equipment for examination.
  • Prepare patient lab samples for in-house and reference lab diagnostic screening.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments. 
  • Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members. 
Experience & Skills Requirements:  
  • Currently possess, or able to obtain Washington State Veterinary Medication Clerk within 90 days of employment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to enter medical notes and maintain medical records; can type 45 wpm minimally.
  • Able to lift 40lbs unassisted.
  • Strong desire to practice empathetic, gold standard medicine benefiting our patients through all life stages.
  • Positive, kind and provide trustworthy communication to patients, team members and clients.
  • Have the desire to constantly grow and advance as a valued team member!

Ideal candidates will possess a minimum of two years’ experience as a veterinary assistant in an animal care facility. We are open Mon-Fri, 7am-6pm, Sat 8-4. A typical work week consists of five, 8-hour shifts which include rotating Saturdays.
Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience with an hourly pay rate of$20 - $23 /hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
