Long Beach Animal Emergency is looking for a Veterinary Assistant with experience in doctors assisting to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.
As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
Role Responsibilities:
Veterinary Assistants work closely with the veterinarians and with clients as well. Creating and presenting estimates, performing call backs, giving financial updates, starting medical records, generating medication labels, filling prescriptions, discharge instructions, etc.
Responsibilities
- Serve the critical role of being the liaison between doctors, clients, and patients
- Organize/ track patient diagnostics
- Coordinate hospitalized patient treatment
- Prepare patient discharge reports/ in-hospital updates
- Communicate with clients, referring DVMs; and pharmacies as needed regarding appointments, medical concerns, patient updates, referrals, and prescriptions
- Assist veterinary staff in animal restraint, radiography, and with lab equipment
Experience & Skills Requirements:
- Minimum 1 – 3 years of veterinary experience
- Basic knowledge of veterinary medicine and terminology
- Ability to communicate calmly, clearly, and effectively with both staff and clients
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Strong attention to detail and follow through
- Excellent customer service skills and a desire to provide outstanding service to clients
- Ability to handle high stress situations

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at $19 - $25/ hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
