Drainage Engineer Intern

Purpose & Need
What You’ll Do
- Proficient in drainage plans production and technical writing
- Understand the concepts of hydrology, including time of concentration calculations
- Understand the concepts of ditch design and cross drain design (HY-8)
- Understand the concepts of storm sewer design, including pipe hydraulics and spread analysis (ORD-SUDA)
- Understand hydroplaning analysis
- Understand the concepts of pond design, including the calculation of treatment and attenuation volumes, nutrient loading calculations, and hydraulic modeling (ICPR)
- Understand the concepts of floodplain impacts and compensation
- Understand the concept of bridge hydraulics (HEC-RAS)
- Effectively research projects and assist with marketing efforts from a drainage point-of-vie
- Gain proficiency in all drainage design standards, manuals, and design criteria
- Complete peer reviews, backchecking calculations, and completing tasks from start to finish
- Gain proficiency in the use of MicroStation
- Require moderate technical supervision of tasks by senior staff
- Complete tasks and projects within established supervisor’s expectations
- Perform field reviews as required
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent from an ABET Accredited University, majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- 0-4 years of post-graduation experience
- Engineering Intern (EI) certificate
What You’ll Bring
- Knowledge about CADD Systems
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Good attention to detail and organizational skills
- Must be able to effectively prioritize
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards in all work efforts
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in an organized manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on deadline-driven activities
- Skill in working with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other Office Products
