Purpose & Need

Patel, Greene and Associates (PGA) is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Traffic Engineer to join our team in an embedded role within District One Department of Transportation office in Bartow, FL. The Traffic Engineer will be responsible for developing traffic engineering plans, concept plans, quantity estimates, and traffic studies while ensuring all work complies with current FDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, and applicable industry standards. This role will also support traffic study reviews, QA/QC activities, and the development of recommendations to address traffic operations and safety concerns. 

What You'll Do

  • Support includes provision of in-house staff support to the Traffic Services
    area.
  • Prepare plan sets, concept plans, and quantity estimates as assigned by Traffic Services 
    staff.
  • Ensure documents and construction plans are prepared in accordance with the latest standards adopted by AASHTO, the FDOT Design Manual, FDOT Traffic Engineering Manual, The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), FDOT Standard Specifications and current implemented modifications, FDOT current memoranda, and shall be accurate, legible, complete in design, drawn to the appropriate scale, and furnished in reproducible form on material acceptable to the FDOT.
  • Perform traffic studies as required and provide quality assurance/quality 
    control (QA/QC) reviews for completed traffic studies received by the Traffic Services 
    staff as assigned.
  • Provide recommended courses of action based on traffic studies for consideration by Traffic Services staff.
  • Intake, document, and respond to customer requests for traffic studies.
  • Perform traffic operations analyses and microsimulation modeling.
  • Support model calibration/validation.
  • Prepare technical reports and engineering deliverables for road and highway projects.
  • Conduct professional and respectful manner when conversing with the public. 
  • Conduct good faith evaluations of each request received and document their findings in the manner approved by Traffic Services staff. 
  • Provide feedback on the resulting studies, if required, recommend courses of action to the Traffic Services staff, and contact the customer with the results.

What You'll Need

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 0 – 10 years of progressively more complex post-registration Traffic and/or ITS design experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an ABET Accredited University, majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities in all aspects while continuing to produce at a high level 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on deadline-driven activities 
  • Skill in working with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other Office Products 
  • Ability to work with across other disciplines (roadway, structures and drainage, landscape, etc.) to identify and reduce design conflicts
