The Job at a Glance

 

The Director of Technical Engineering is responsible for leading the strategy, delivery, and continuous improvement of the organization’s technology operations. This role oversees the reliability, scalability, and performance of enterprise infrastructure, platforms, and operational services that support business-critical systems.

The Director will lead multiple operational teams responsible for infrastructure operations, cloud platforms, monitoring, service management, and incident response, ensuring systems operate securely, efficiently, and with high availability.

This role also partners security, architecture, and business leaders to support digital transformation initiatives and ensure technology operations align with organizational objectives.

 

A Typical Day

 

Technology Operations Strategy

  • Own and execute the technical operations strategy aligned to business and IT priorities
  • Drive infrastructure modernization, automation, and scalable operations
  • Ensure operational readiness for new platform deployments and emerging technologies
  • Continuously improving operational capabilities, reliability, and performance

Infrastructure & Platform Operations

Oversee enterprise infrastructure and platform operations across cloud, data center, network, and core services.

  • Operate cloud platforms (Azure, GCP), data centers, network, and shared platform services
  • Own monitoring and observability to maintain uptime and performance
  • Plan capacity and implement resilience, redundancy, and reliability improvements

IT Service Management (ITSM)

  • Establish mature ITSM practices (incident, problem, change, and request management)
    • Improve service health through MTTR, change success rate, and availability targets
  • Lead major incident response, communications, and post-incident reviews

Operational Excellence & Automation

  • Automate operations to reduce toil and improve reliability
  • Standardize monitoring, alerting, and observability
  • Define KPIs and dashboards, drive efficiency and cost optimization

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build and lead high-performing operations teams; coach and develop talent
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with engineering/architecture and vendors to deliver resilient operations aligned to enterprise strategy

Security, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure operations meet security and compliance requirements; strengthen controls with cybersecurity partners
  • Own disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational risk mitigation plans

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Success in this role is measured by:

  • Availability, reliability, and performance
  • Incident response effectiveness (MTTR) and customer satisfaction
  • Change success rate and operational cost efficiency

 

 

To Land This Opportunity

 

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in computer science information technology, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience in IT Infrastructure or technical operations
  • You have 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or technical operations
  • You have 7+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams
  • You have experience managing enterprise-scale infrastructure and cloud platforms
  • You have strong knowledge of ITIL or ITSM practices
  • You have experience managing 24/7 operational environments
  • You have strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

 

About Your Future Team

The salary range for this role is $163,200 to $243,800 annually which is based on including but not limited to qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Parts Town is a pay-for performance company. In addition to base pay, some roles offer a profit-sharing program, and an annual bonus depending on the role. Our comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) with match, employee assistance programs, paid time off, paid sick time off, paid holidays, paid parental leave, and professional development opportunities.
