Scientific Advisor (Patent)
Scientific Advisor (Patent) – Chestnut Ridge, NY: Facilitate communication among IP (legal strategies), Business Development (including project management), and R&D (timelines) about technical issues regarding patent prosecution and litigation involving the company’s chemical and pharmaceutical products. Manage PM timelines, R&D timelines, update the intellectual property group database to align with Business Development strategies, and industry changes. Ensure that the company is in conformity with patent and intellectual property laws and regulations. Formulate and administer patent and intellectual property policies within the company. Support Business Development and IP department with patent pre-litigation strategy by locating prior-art and finalizing internal pre-litigation strategy memoranda. Assist management and R&D with formulation strategies by locating prior art by conducting searches, review of PTAB communication/office action responses, patent competitive landscape review/diligence. Interpret current patent and regulatory rules and ensure that they are communicated to management and R&D through corporate policies. Generate, analyze, and maintain patent landscapes and internal FTO analyses. Intellectual Property due diligence support on potential branded generic products, and generic collaboration opportunities. Support the protection of trade secrets and intellectual property by interviewing the R&D team, as well as follow-up education on how to maintain and identify trade secrets. Assist on IP strategies. Conduct research to obtain and analyze data to frame non-infringement positions in connection with pharmaceutical compounds and forumlations. Contribute to and support IP department to identify potential patentable inventions by interviewing the R&D team and contribute to drafting and prosecution of patent applications.
Must have a Master of Law Degree in Intellectual Property and Technology Law. Must have two (2) years of experience working as Technical Advisor conducting patent and prior art searches and contributing to drafting and prosecution of patent applications. Must have experience in subscription and non subscription databases such as Patsnap, STN, Scifinder, PACER, Darts IP, Lex Machina, Docket Navigator, Thomson Innovation, Derwent World Patent Index (DWPI), Minesoft Patbase, Lexis Nexis Total Patent, Delphion, Questel Orbit, Factiva, ProQuest, IEEE, and Engineering Village (Inspec, Compendex, and NTIS), USPTO, WIPO Espacenet, JPTDL, Pubmed, Sciverse, Science Direct, Scopus, SAE and Google (Esb, Scholar and Patents). 40 hrs/wk, M – F 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Proof of legal authority to work in the United States is required.
