The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Scheduling, the Contract Scheduling Analyst provides operational and administrative support to the Scheduling team during a major business system implementation. This role is responsible for supporting daily scheduling activities, maintaining accurate transaction and inventory records, and assisting with data management across Allegro and Right Angle. Analytics of railcar costs, railcar lease and freight rate economics, and customs are additional responsibilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with Scheduling, Trading, Operations, Accounting, and external counterparties to ensure the accurate execution of product movements, contract administration, and settlement-related activities. Collaboration to review data and ensure the accurate movements are being captured in Allegro and Right Angle systems. This position requires strong attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while supporting both ongoing business operations and system transition initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day scheduling activities for crude oil, refined products, renewable fuels, LPG and related commodities.
- Enter, maintain, and validate nominations, movements, and inventory transactions.
- Assist with the transition of scheduling processes and data during the Right-Angle implementation project.
- Support nomination management activities across various transportation modes including rail, truck, pipeline, marine, and terminal operations.
- Perform actualization activities to ensure accurate transaction and inventory accounting.
- Monitor and maintain sight codes, location master data, and scheduling-related system records.
- Support detention and demurrage management processes, including tracking, verification, reconciliation, and dispute resolution when required.
- Perform sales reconciliation activities to ensure alignment between physical movements, contracts, invoices, and settlements.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve transactional discrepancies and operational issues.
- Assist with month-end processes including shipment verification, inventory balancing, and transaction reconciliation.
- Generate reports and provide analytical support related to scheduling, inventory, logistics, and system implementation activities.
- Ensure compliance with business processes, controls, and data governance requirements.
- Support documentation, testing, training, and user acceptance activities associated with new systems and process improvements.
- Participate in ad hoc projects and operational initiatives as required.
- Review and enter railcar data into the Customs Report retrieved from the systems Allegro and Right Angle sent to the Customs Broker.
- Support streamlining process documentation for freight, railcar costs and customs.
- Regression analysis on freight and logistics costs for mitigation initiatives.
- Supports freight analysis and additional freight cost trends.
- Standardize the freight flow documentation and publication process within the commodity teams.
- Analyze all data monthly to identify freight trends, fuel surcharge and accessorial charges to the fleet.
- Maximize tank car repair, location and shop programs assisting with cost mitigation strategies.
- Assist with freight optimization strategies to realize the highest margins.
- Perform routine analysis on all data collected from external and internal sources and prepare monthly ad hoc reports.
- Support assessorial analytics such as detention.
Education:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience
Requirements:
- 2+ years of relevant experience in operations, trading, risk, or scheduling.
- Proven ability to work and negotiate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Proficient computer skills, including advanced Excel capabilities.
- Experience working with commodity management or scheduling systems, preferably Allegro, Right Angle, or similar ERP/CTRMs.
- Experience with nominations, inventory management, actualization, settlement support, or transportation logistics considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across multiple business functions.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment and support business transformation initiatives.
- Previous experience supporting system implementations, data migration, testing, or process improvement projects is considered an asset.
- High level analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to think outside of the box and deal with ambiguity.
