The Opportunity:

The Supply Optimization Manager is responsible for the management of fuel supply at Parkland’s Northern Tier regional operations center (ROC). This manager will support key functions of the business in the procurement of fuel, load optimization, contract compliance tracking, issue resolution, and more. The role is responsible for driving key business initiatives and successfully achieving operational and financial goals.

Salary: $60,000-$75,000 (DOE)

Responsibilities:

  • Fuel Procurement – develop and execute purchasing strategy by market, composed refiner-backed contracts, day deals and rack buying.
  • Fuel optimization – Monitor market conditions to optimize fuel deliveries, including contracts, day deals, discretionary rack, and inventory
  • Issue resolution – advise Ops and drivers where to load (primary, secondary loading options)
  • Monitor and manage supply  and logistics arbs, and execute on opportunities
  • Allocation tracking – ensure liftings are rateable and allocation is appropriately managed; work with suppliers to hit daily, weekly, 10-day, and monthly targets, and ensure Parkland always have supply when needed
  • Contract compliance & management – track actual volumes vs contractual commitments, expiration of contracts, fees, etc
  • Lead forecasting for suppliers and for National Accounts
  • Supplier management - develop supplier relationships to ensure Parkland is always in a good position when it comes to supply; develop backup supply relationships and always have security of supply in mind
  • Price validation – help with price validation and resolution of supplier invoice issues as needed
  • Ensure Parkland is set up to load at every terminal and is set up to receive prices and load from every supplier (OPIS poster or not)
  • Liaison with accounting, IT, logistics, and business units to ensure proper reporting and follow up on fuel supply activity
  • Support Continuous Improvement culture - lead Continuous Improvement initiatives across the Southeast ROC, including driving key performance initiatives, metrics, and goals, mentoring and training team members, and championing projects
  • Drive initiatives that contribute to long-term operational excellence.

  • Promotes and manages a positive and productive work environment working with the management team to provide clear communications and fair and timely evaluations of all staff.

  • Promotes the organization to the industry, trade associations, and local officials.

  • Follow and enforce all Parkland USA’s policies and established procedures.
  • Ensure that confidentiality of data collected and stored are maintained.
  • Employee is expected to set priorities and meet deadlines. Employee is responsible for planning and carrying out assignments, resolving conflicts that arise, informing and coordinating with others as expected. Employee is accountable for ensuring the accuracy of their work and maintaining good working relations, both internal and external to Parkland USA. Self-direction and motivation are also expected.
  • Must meet performance expectations. Must complete all duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field. May be substituted with related experience
  • 5+ years of petroleum supply experience, including practical knowledge of various index and rack-based pricing mechanisms
  • Understanding of fixed price, hedging, cost build ups preferred
  • Understanding of market structure, netbacks, logistics costs, brand spreads ideal
  • Strong analytical skills and finance background
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational and networking skills
  • Experience with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word preferred
  • Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress and crisis situations
