Starting Salary: $27.00-$35.00/hour
The Opportunity
The Engineering Intern is a member of the Fixed Equipment Integrity team, supporting the refinery in assuring the ongoing integrity and reliability of refinery assets. The successful candidate will contribute to refinery-wide material selection activities, corrosion analysis, repair guidance, and the development and execution of equipment asset strategies.
This role provides the opportunity to work with maintenance, inspection, technical, operations, and construction personnel while gaining experience in both office and refinery field environments.
Responsibilities
- Support project deliverables for Design and Capital Engineering projects.
- Provide material selection guidance and corrosion analysis support.
- Support construction, fabrication, and welding activities.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) programs for operating units.
- Support the plant Integrity Operating Window (IOW) program by reviewing exceedances and assisting with asset strategy adjustments.
- Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, including TapRoot, 5 Why, or Why Tree methodologies.
- Support Fixed Equipment Integrity initiatives to improve mechanical integrity programs.
- Provide corrosion analysis support for refinery operations and reliability processes.
- Support the analysis of inspection techniques and inspection results.
Education
- Currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and pursuing a degree in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or a diploma or degree in Engineering Technology.
- Preference will be given to students in their 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of study with one academic term remaining following the completion of the work term.
Requirements
- Available for an 8-month work term from May 2027 to December 2027.
- Ability to work in both office and field settings within an industrial plant site.
- Familiarity with a heavy industrial environment and industrial experience in British Columbia are considered assets.
- Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Overtime may be required during turnaround activities, including extended day shifts.
