M&A/Optimization Summer Intern

The Opportunity:
As a member of the M&A and Optimization team, the successful candidate will support deal decisions by developing and maintaining economic models, providing financial and operational analysis, assisting in conducting due diligence on transactions, and generating insights to support Sunoco’s current, future acquisition and optimization opportunities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with senior leaders and gain significant experience and exposure to initiatives that are central to the long-term growth and success of the company.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis into a variety of strategic issues, value creation and acquisition opportunities.
- Provide analytical support, problem solve and support key due diligence and optimization work streams.
- Work closely with business units and corporate teams to build strong working relationships across the organization to draw information and knowledge.
- Complete valuations of potential opportunities by applying the appropriate frameworks, business valuation principles and best practices.
- Prepare investment recommendations for approval by Sunoco’s Senior Leadership Team.
- Support on broader strategic corporate initiatives.
Education:
- You are currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution working towards a Bachelor’s degree with a focus on finance, business, accounting or other advanced technical degree (e.g., Maths, Engineering); the candidate must be in the 3rd or 4th year of their program, with strong academic standing.
Requirements:
- You are available for a 4-month term beginning on or around May 2026.
- You are highly motivated, curious and possess a desire to learn.
- You are focused on delivering high quality work and pay attention to detail.
- You possess strong foundational skills in financial modeling related to mergers and acquisitions.
- You have highly developed verbal and written communication skills to enable you to thrive in a challenging and exciting work environment.
- You have exceptional interpersonal skills and possess natural leadership as demonstrated in academic and/or extracurricular activities.
- You are a creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- You will be part of a Canadian team and must be able to work effectively through a high degree of collaboration and communication through in-person meetings and video conferences.
