The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Senior Manager, Sales Planning develops and leads strategic sales plans and activities to help set and achieve business goals. Responsibilities in this role include promotional/flyer planning, merchandising planning and financials, and vendor sales planning for the business. This role analyzes market trends and competitor activity, utilizing data to increase revenue, profitability, as well as to add value through a fact-based approach to promotional planning. This role leads the sales planning team and collaborates with various internal departments to turn data into information, sales stories, and insights to improve decision making and drive consistent profitable growth.
Responsibilities:
- Promotional/Flyer Planning:
- Determines product and pricing mix for weekly flyer.
- Forecasts sales of recommended products. Pull sales and understand lift impact at various price points and placement in the flyer.
- Partners with Sales Planning and Supply Chain on a weekly basis to support sales forecast validation to drive alignment with the “Promotional Forecast of Record".
- Merchandise Planning and Financials:
- Utilizes flyer forecasts and make assumptions of non-flyer and email forecasts to understand Sales, Margin and Subsidy spend for week, month, and year.
- Adjusts financial metrics on an ad hoc basis with changes to flyer and present to senior leaders.
- Prepares and presents information on metrics from 7/4-day sales identifying wins, misses, etc. and use these learnings for future builds.
- Vendor Sales Planning:
- Plans product sales by vendor for a specified time and communicate total sales plan with vendor to include types of promotions and sales forecasts at each promotion and placement on flyer.
- Negotiates with vendors sales, subsidy needed to get placement, and flyer space.
- Works with finance to bill vendors at the end of each month.
- Tracks and follows flyer deals to ensure deals are executed upon and follow-up with vendors any changes to the agreed upon plan.
- Partners with purchasing to assess and validate business opportunities via contract development to support incentives/threshold targets.
- Identify potential opportunities and risks to delivering annual/quarterly targets.
- Vendor email incentive planning.
- Manage, coach, and develop the Sales Planning Analyst.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business/Commerce, Marketing or related field.
- 8+ years Sales/Promotional Planning experience (ideally in retail and/or food retail specifically).
- Strong Microsoft Excel user with an ability to build sustainable financial models that are extremely efficient.
- Experience creating reports in Tableau (or Power BI) to provide insights visually.
- Experience with retail POS software considered an asset.
- Experienced and skilled at presenting to senior leaders within the organization.
- Knowledge of best practices and business trends impacting the role and business requirements.
- Ability to act as a subject matter expert, solve complex issues and provide innovative solutions to the role and business.
- High attention to detail, well organized and committed to meeting deadlines.
- Excellent analytic skills and demonstrated ability to translate insights into actionable business recommendations that deliver positive results.
- A self-motivated and enthusiastic “go-getter” with an ability and desire to collaborate with leaders and work in cross-functional teams.
