The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Canadian Fleet Manager, this role is responsible for providing support to the operations team in the form of driver and management training support, fleet maintenance management, regulatory compliance and risk management.  This role will work closely with the operations team to enhance the training and competency of drivers, brokers, and agents through solutions based coaching and mentoring.  The position will work with operations to ensure the fleet of vehicles is operated safely and in a compliant manner.  We are open to candidates in Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Calgary or at one of our Branch locations in British Columbia.   

Responsibilities:

  • Educate, train and orient new and current employees on procedures for proper inspection, compliance policies and procedures, defensive driving and safe operation of vehicles for bulk delivery, service and passenger vehicles;
  • Evaluate driving skills of driver candidates by conducting road tests to asses skill level and competency;
  • Review key performance indicators including Carrier Safety Profiles and advise operations on opportunities to improve on road performance.
  • Consult with external sources, colleagues and functional area experts to determine best practices and make recommendations on how to apply them in cost effective manner;
  • Conducts Defensive Driver training.
  • Conducts driver evaluations and provides coaching to drivers on the performance of their duties;
  • Works with management to develop and deliver driver and management training programs;
  • Supports Operations, People and Culture, and Health Safety with administrative record keeping including ensuring driver records are kept up to date in Cority and Ultipro records are maintained and compliant. Conduct cold transportation audits to review vehicle records are being maintained.
  • Expected to travel to multiple branches (approx. 70% of the time.)

Requirements:

  • Class 1 Driver license, with a clean abstract;
  • Certified Driver Trainer (CDT) Certification
  • Prior experience in a role with levels of responsibility associated;
  • Previous fuel driving experience, with knowledge and proficiency in safe fuel handling;
  • Knowledge of provincial ,federal regulations and the National Safety Code;
  • Excellent communication, organization skills, and willing to perform a variety of tasks;
  • Able to multi task and meet time sensitive deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven leadership ability;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
