The Opportunity:

The Analyst, Data Control supports Sunoco’s Retail and Commercial business by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of operational and financial data across key business systems. Reporting to the Manager, Accounting this role investigates and resolves ServiceNow incidents, performs root-cause analysis, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to maintain accurate retailer settlements, protect gross margins, and support month-end close activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with technical teams including Accounting, Operations, IT, POS, Retail Finance, and other stakeholders to resolve data issues, improve processes, strengthen controls, and drive operational efficiency. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about data quality, continuous improvement, and service excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Management and Issue Resolution: Resolve ServiceNow incidents within established SLAs, ensuring accurate and auditable documentation. Investigate data discrepancies, gather required approvals, and implement corrective actions across key systems, including PDI, JDE, SAP and ServiceNow. Maintain accurate records, workbooks, and supporting documentation to ensure data integrity and compliance. Support month-end close activities for PDI, RightAngle SAP and JDE.
  • Cross-Functional Optimization: Partner with Hydrocarbon Accounting, IT, Retail Operations, Finance, POS, and other stakeholders to identify and resolve data issues. Provide timely support and communications to Operations Managers, retailers, and cross-functional business and technical teams. Ensure accurate data maintenance in systems to support retailer settlements and protect company profitability.
  • Process Improvement and Process Support: Contribute to data validation, system enhancement, and business improvement projects. Support the development and enhancement of Shared Services processes, tools, and reporting. Identify opportunities to improve controls, automate manual tasks, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Operational Excellence: Adhere to established policies, internal controls, and service standards. Drive continuous improvement initiatives by challenging existing processes and recommending scalable solutions. Support Finance Shared Services activities and deliver high-quality service aligned with Service Level Agreements and service commitments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, or computer science preferred (equivalent experience considered) with a minimum of 5+ years’ work experience in finance, financial systems, data governance, business analysis, or process integration technology.
  • Advanced experience using ERP JD Edwards, SAP and/or retail back-office systems (such as PDI), POS Systems (Bulloch) and ServiceNow.
  • A proactive self-starter with a record of designing and executing well-structured development strategies to enable growth and sustain excellence in process improvement.
  • Requires intermediate knowledge of financial terms and principles. Calculates intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and commissions. Conducts intermediate financial analysis.
  • Experience in a customer service-focused, shared services, or operations environment with strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools (Intermediate Excel skills), SQL, Python and related technologies.
