The Opportunity:

 As the Category Advisor for Dispensed beverages, you will be responsible for executing the 5 year plan for both hot and cold dispensed beverages. This includes the the  roll out of a 5 year phased plan for frozen dispensed beverages in collaboration with strategic marketing, facilities infrastructure and operations. Working closely with the food service team, collaboration on promotions and cohesiveness with food offers, as well as the store planning team and field merchandising team to ensure suitable store presence and operational excellence. Profitability, market share & sustainability must be top of mind, and foundational to decisions being made.

Responsibilities:

  • Support & execute the Dispensed Beverages category plans for Parkland Retail in Canada, which includes hot & cold dispensed beverages. 
  • Develop / evolve Parkland’s dispensed beverage business including analysis, planning, and implementation to align with Parkland’s broader retail and store merchandising strategies.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of new / enhanced offers including equipment selection and procurement, product and ingredient selection, supply chain, food safety, labour, operations standards and compliance, and waste.
  • Lead category management of the various offers including product assortment, pricing, placement, and promotions.
  • Support the financial performance of the dispensed categories, driving sales and profitability.
  • Support collaboration with Retail Operations, Marketing, IT, Facilities infrastructure and Finance to advance category-related initiatives, including pricing, promotions, technology, and operational compliance.
  • Manage and grow relationships and lead negotiations with external vendors. Manage delivery of sales and operational commitments to Parkland’s dispensed beverage vendors & equipment suppliers.
  • Manage inquiries from the operations and field merchandising teams requesting equipment, smallwares, changes etc. with regards to dispensed beverage programs. Using analytics and space planning to determine solutions for each location.

 Education:

  • University degree in related field preferred

Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of category experience including category and product management hot and cold dispensed beverages demonstrating: strong category management, marketing, operational, financial, consultative, and communication skills; leadership in defining and implementing projects; a proven record of positive business results; and an increasing level of responsibility.
  • A deep understanding of food and dispensed beverage offers, programs, equipment, ingredients, menu development, operations, strategy, reporting, systems, tools and knowledge of consumers, competitors, and market intel. 
  • Ability to manage and motivate functional teams responsible for strategy, operations, and special projects related to Food Service, including Merchandising, Operations, Marketing, IT, and Finance.
  • Strong operational and financial acumen, and analytical ability to guide day-to-day decisions.
  • Advanced MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools (Smartsheet, SPS, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Bilingualism (French and English), oral and written, is a strong asset.
  • Gas station and convenience store experience is an asseainability must be top of mind, and foundational to decisions being made
