The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York/New Jersey region, including The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads.
The Office of the Chief Safety Management Officer (CSMO) plays a vital role in furthering the mission of the Port Authority by ensuring the workplace meets all occupational health and safety legal expectations and actively supports the highest quality occupational health and safety programs to ensure the safe movement of the Port Authority’s customers, partners, employees, and stakeholders every day. Safety Management Office, within the Chief Safety Management Office, maintains and develops safety, fire protection, occupational health, and public health programs and policies for the PANYNJ

Responsibilities | ||||||
Under the direction of the Supervising Fire Safety Engineer, the selected candidate will be responsible for performing technical duties focused on maintaining and promoting a fire and life safety environment and culture for Port Authority (PA) employees, tenants, and patrons; performing field audits of physical conditions and of fire protection relevant to occupancy and construction at all PA facilities and spaces; conducting or witnessing annual and acceptance tests of fixed fire protection systems and equipment; reviewing and commenting on plans and specifications for tenant and PA areas; participating in final acceptance inspections to assure conformance with codes and approved documents; writing evaluation reports with recommendations for corrective actions; participating in special ad hoc technical investigations or projects; performing as a fire protection engineering and fire suppression operations consultant on behalf of the Agency. The position requires travel to all Port Authority facilities and work hours on occasion may include early morning, late evening and weekend shifts to respond to emergencies and safety-related events or incidents. | ||||||
