About the Role

The Port Authority's Procurement Department is looking for an Inventory Control Specialist. Reporting to the Operations Manager of the Warehouse & Inventory Management Division, the Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for overseeing supply chain management activities across the Port Authority’s warehouse operations. This includes managing the day-to-day flow of goods, planning logistics, and aligning supply with demand for assigned commodities to ensure operational efficiency and inventory accuracy.  

Responsibilities

  • Manage supply chain functions including sourcing, expediting, logistics coordination, and maintaining detailed material master descriptions in SAP.
  • Utilize SAP to: 
    • Create and analyze statistical usage reports to support the development of new requirements contracts for facility maintenance materials.
    • Analyze usage patterns to enhance inventory control strategies, improve demand planning, minimize obsolescence, and support fleet operations.
    • Conduct comprehensive item and inventory analysis by reviewing usage trends, validating material master coding, and ensuring data accuracy and compatibility for strategic planning.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure timely delivery of goods, verify contract compliance, process change orders, and manage contract status throughout its lifecycle.
  • Obtain pricing for non-contracted inventory items to facilitate purchase orders or initiate new contracts.
  • Collaborate with warehouse supervisors and Port Authority maintenance and operations staff across all facility locations to:
  • Review material requirements
  • Update MRP settings in SAP:
    • Achieve the department’s inventory turnover goal of four times annually.
    • Participate in emergency and snow operations with 24/7 availability.
    • Assist in warehouse cycle counts and full inventory audits to ensure inventory accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a Supply Chain Analyst, Logistics Specialist, or its equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Inventory Management functions in SAP or other Inventory Management Systems. 
  • Will be required to respond to Emergencies 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. Must possess a valid driver’s license. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge/experience with the Port Authority or government procurement process.
  • Experience in contract administration.
  • Knowledge of Inventory Control, program management, strategic sourcing procedures.
  • Knowledge of warehousing operations and materials distribution. 
  • Knowledge of automotive and building maintenance materials.
  • Must be able to work on numerous projects concurrently and prioritize workload.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook software programs.

Compensation, Benefits & On-Site Collaboration Requirements

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits employees to work remotely a maximum of one day per week, subject to operational and business needs.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey anticipates that the actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on aspects such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal factors. 

The expected compensation range for this role is:​ ​Minimum: $ 73,658 Midpoint: $ 95,742 Maximum: $ 117,832​
