About the Internship
The mission of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is to strengthen the Port Authority’s ability to mitigate, prepare, respond, resume and recover from all-hazards (natural, technological and man-made/terrorism.) OEM is responsible for developing and implementing plans and programs to preserve life, protect vital public infrastructure, restore core business functions, manage crisis events, and help maintain the highest quality and most efficient transportation services so important to the well-being and economic competitiveness of the region.
Responsibilities
During this program, participants will have the opportunity to rotate throughout various assignments within OEM that offer on-the-job experience and education in several functions such as:
- Training and Exercise: Develop and conduct facility exercises that exceed compliance based on the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)
- Strategic Preparedness: Assist with the Agency Risk Assessment and multi-hazard risk management program; Drone Program; GIS Program and Disaster Assistance Program.
- Operations: Administer and manage the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), including mobile response assets and the agency watch desk; and develop and implement programs to improve more effective and efficient means to support disaster operations.
- In addition to the rotational assignments, participants will have the opportunity to participate in trainings, facility tours, and exercises scheduled throughout the year. There will also be an opportunity to network throughout the organization to obtain working knowledge of Port Authority and awareness of potential full-time opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college/university through the duration of the internship

Internship Details
- The start date is expected to be December 8, 2025
- This internship will require up to 36.25 hours per week
- The format is expected to be mostly in-person (4 days in-person with 1 potential remote day)

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $27.89 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
