About the Role

 

  •  Under the supervision of the General Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing direct supervision of Newark Liberty International Airport’s Landscaping Section, which is comprised of IUOE employees.
  • This permanent position will primarily be on weekdays from 06:30-15:00. However, the selected candidate may be required shift work on an as-needed basis

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating daily work schedules and assigning tasks.
  • Monitoring and ensuring successful completion of assigned work.
  • Coordinating work activities with other craft groups.
  • Planning and organizing future work assignments.
  • Instructing assigned personnel on:

-          Work methods and techniques

-          Safe work practices

-          Proper use of materials and equipment

  • Participating in the airport’s snow removal plan.
  • Producing and updating the annual facility snow removal procedure manual.
  • Maintaining the daily snow operator call-in equalization list.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges.

The selected candidate is required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24 hour/7 day a week basis, and must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays and work overtime as a regular function of the job.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

 

  • Ability to read, review and work from contract drawings (blueprints) and contract specifications and make comments/recommendations regarding maintenance aspects of proposed new construction or alterations Keep precise records of the unit’s contracts.
  • Knowledge of current State of the Art practices related to concrete and asphalt pavement in an airport and highway environment.
  • Knowledge of paving methods, tools, and equipment necessary to maintain the airport in compliance with FAR 139 requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the Bid Document process in regards to requirements contractsAs a contract administrator, must understand the provisions of the purchase document, have the ability to communicate contract obligations to all parties involved, and maintain control over the contract performanceShall act as liaison with/or oversee the performance of service vendors
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with various levels of Port Authority staff and Federal Agencies, as well as external contractors, tenants, and customers
  • Knowledge of PC programs and applications, including Maximo, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel
  • Knowledge of Airport Security Program and ability to enforce security standards.
  • Experience in scheduling maintenance work activities and monitoring and preparing inventory of materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise work of subordinates and train new employees
  • Ability to coordinate work with other craft groups and to organize several jobs simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the facility’s snow removal plan.
  • Responsible for having a thorough knowledge of all union agreements that pertain to unionized staff under their charge, to the extent necessary to resolve grievances and maintain labor harmony (Knowledge of the FM, IUOE, BTU and TWU Contract MOA’s).
  • Ability to supervise and work flexible hours, including afternoons, nights, and weekends and work overtime as a regular function of the jobRespond to airport emergencies including but not limited to paving and snow emergencies.
  • Strong knowledge of airport terminal, landside, and aeronautical operations.
  • Knowledge of the facility’s snow removal plan.
  • Knowledge of Airport Security Program and ability to enforce security standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Audit Process thus assuring facility compliance with established audit policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Port Authority Code of Ethics as they relate to PA staff, Contractors, and Contract Staff.
