About the Role

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey currently has an opening for a Medical Assistant in the Human Resources, Office of Medical Services. The Office of Medical Services (OMS) provides occupational medical services to ensure a stable, productive, safe, and healthy workforce; ensures that employees meet the medical requirements of their positions and that the agency remains in compliance with applicable government regulations, federal requirements, and memoranda of agreement; and helps to guard against excessive use of sick time and mitigate overtime through oversight of the Integrated Absence Program.

Responsibilities

  • Administers various examinations/tests as included in the Multi Phasic Health Testing Program, records data and enters all test procedures and results – including height, weight, vision, EKG, spirometry and audiometry – on appropriate forms and then into electronic medical records system.
  • Assists the Physician in conjunction with examination procedures, cleaning and maintaining the equipment, as well as patient counseling. Prepare charts and make appropriate notations in accordance with accepted practice. Assists with patient history prior to seeing the doctor. Responsible for anticipating the supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, as well as maintenance of such equipment.
  • Collects specimens, such as drug screens, blood, urine and sends them to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Maintains equipment used in the testing procedures, such as audiometry or EKG.
  • Maintains proper stock levels of all medical supplies needed in the performance of duties.
  • May perform other comparable level work for the unit as required.
  • Responds to queries as appropriate regarding the examinations, equipment, tests and results.
  • Assists with scheduling of required examinations as well as initial or follow-up visits.

Additional Information

  • Must have flexibility in rotating at other facilities at the discretion of the Office of Medical Services as necessary, for unit functioning

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a standard four-year high school or its equivalent.
  • Two years’ full-time paid work experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Assistant course.

Desired Qualifications

  • Able to operate and maintain equipment used in multi-phasic health testing programs].
  • Possess manual dexterity needed when working with patients or equipment and skills such as venipuncture, EKG, audiometry and spirometry.
  • [Knowledge using medical tracking system software.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey anticipates that the actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on aspects such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal factors. The expected compensation range for this role is:​

 

Minimum: $44,330  Midpoint: $61,295   Maximum: $78,260

 

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits employees to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business, and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required on business needs.
