Description
TThe Staff Chaplain is a valued member of the Palomar Health Spiritual Care Team and serves in carrying out the mission, vision, values or Palomar Health. Staff Chaplains oversee and coordinate with chaplain volunteers to provide pastoral counseling services to patients, families, visitors and staff of Palomar Health.

Staff Chaplains meet with the Medical Staff and other health professionals to discuss, develop and implement procedures that will improve the overall patient experience and that support the Palomar Health mission statement. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Description
* Organize and assign daily visits to volunteer chaplains based on need and requests.
* Perform initial spiritual assessments.
* Provide patient centered spiritual care.
* Develop spiritual care plan of care for individual patients consistent with patient's spiritual background and need.
* Communicate/coordinate spiritual care with community faith leaders/clergy to provide specific care to petitions.
* Provide spiritual care and emotional support to patients and families. This may include prayer, readings and unique spiritual practice such as blessings, rites and rituals.
* Engage in end of life conversation with families when appropriate to provide theological framework for decision making.
* Provide meaningful support/ministry of presence for families and patients facing end of life.
* Guide families and patients in the planning of final arrangements as end of life approaches. Funeral planning.
* Daily charting/documentation of all visit completed by staff and volunteer chaplains.
* Follow on-call schedule/assignments.
* Chaplains provide spiritual care and emotional support to staff in times of loss and crisis which includes team meetings and follow up.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology, Divinity, Doctor of Ministry, or other chaplain-related Masters degree.
Preferred Education: Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
Minimum Experience: 3 - 5 years in a related position
Ordination or recognition in specific ecclesiastical authority
Preferred Experience: 5+ years in a related position
