Coordinate activities in the Health Information Specialist section of the department. Understands the balance between protecting the patient's right to privacy, and the need to utilize patient information for the good of the patient and the hospital, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. Responsible for ensuring workflow completion that meets regulatory requirements. Knowledge of medical record procedures, release of information guidelines, state and federal laws and regulations related to record keeping. Displays an ongoing commitment to quality. Provides staff leadership and development. Participates as a team leader/member. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: Associate's Degree or secondary vocational training related to health information service
Preferred Education: Graduate from a CA HIM accredited RHIT or RHIA program
Minimum Experience: 2 - 3 years related experience
Preferred Experience: 4+ years related experience
Required Certification: Registered Health Information Tech (RHIT)
Preferred Certification: Not Applicable
