Description
Under the direction of the Director of Quality, works as a consultant for Quality, Patient Safety Department, the Department of Nursing, the Medical Staff and Administration to support a culture of safety, optimal outcomes and compliance. Is responsible (in collaboration with Palomar Health Leadership and staff) for ensuring that the provision of nursing care meets standards identified in professional literature and the standards statements of professional organizations and state and federal regulations. Serves as a clinical expert and mentor for staff. Focuses on the needs of the patients in the system, interacts with others in Quality, Patient Safety Department, the Department of Nursing and in Ancillary Services to improve clinical quality and patient safety. Participates in the development of orientation programs, didactic presentations and clinical mentoring for novice to expert practitioners. Promotes continuity and quality care through the use of data, best practices, and the integration of the performance improvement philosophy into practice.

* Explores system issues and processes; coordinating improvement efforts
* Utilizes advanced practice nurse training for in depth case review, with identification for opportunities for improvement
*Lead for system initiatives that support quality outcomes
* Look at system outcomes, collaborating with unit CNS, leadership, and providers to identify best practices and effectiveness of current interventions to achieve optimal outcomes
*Liaison with Medical Groups and interprofessional groups to attain outcomes across the system
* Recommend and develop procedures (Standards) to meet the requirements in areas of responsibility
*Evaluates data, completes observations reviews literature to recommend changes needed in practice
*Examines data for trends, performs observations/audits to validate trends and develop plan for improvement

Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure; Master in Nursing
Preferred Education: Not Applicable
Minimum Experience: 5 years acute hospital experience as RN
Preferred Experience: 3 years Clinical Nurse Specialist Experience
Required Certification: Current CA Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire
American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
Preferred Certification: Certified Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
Required License: Current CA RN License
