Description
Manages the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) in collaboration with the medical staff, including infectious diseases physicians and other health professionals. This is inclusive of daily rounds and recommendations to medical staff to improve the quality of patient outcomes, optimize drug therapy, and reduce costs. Manages the Antibiotic Subcommittee of the Pharmacy &Therapeutics Committee. Conducts medication use evaluations (MUEs) reviews, formulary reviews, reports, and creation of the yearly antibiogram. Manages existing procedures and protocols, or implements newly designed procedures and protocols. Integrates clinical pharmacy services with information technology. Participates or leads projects supporting clinical pharmacy services related to organizational needs. Support organization's preparedness for regulatory and quality measures. Provides ongoing instruction and training in all clinical endeavors, protocols, etc., to all pharmacists, residents, and students at Palomar Health. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
Preferred Education: Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D)
Minimum Experience: PGY1 Residency and 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience (total of 3 years hospital experience) or PGY1 Residency and PGY2 Residency in Infectious Diseases (total of 2 years of hospital experience); Minimum Computer Skills: Basic Excel with passing score
Preferred Experience: PGY2 residency in Infectious Disease and/or 5 years of experience in managing an antibiotic stewardship program; Preferred Computer Skills: Intermediate Excel with passing score
Required Certification: Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification in Infectious Diseases or Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate for Acute Care within 1 year of hire
