This position supports the integrity and timely completion of electronic health record documentation. Important contributor to the creation and publication of an electronic record for all patient types. Working closely with other Medical Records positions to identify needed documentation, the Physician's Liaison and Coding Support position will alert the appropriate physicians to complete requirements via a variety of communication tools. Assists the coding team by researching documentation requests and will secure medical record information needed for timely coding and billing. Requires analysis of the health record against regulatory requirements, as well as knowledge of medical terminology, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, Joint Commission and CMS/Title 22 medical record requirements and Cerner functionality. Must be able to work productively with the coding team, medical staff and other departments and services by seeking win-win solutions to workflow and production issues. Requires attention to detail and ability to meet strict weekly deadlines for deficiency analysis, in order to produce timely and complete data collection and communication to individual medical staff members regarding the status of their record completion. Must have clear written communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. May require analysis of records for deficiencies and accurate assignment of record completion to appropriate staff member; pulling records for physician completion; entering and updating deficiencies. Perform periodic and ongoing studies regarding medical staff compliance with Hospital Bylaws/Rules and Regulations, state, federal or Joint Commission documentation regulations.

Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills. Proficiency in use of Excel MS Windows, Excel, , Word, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: Successful Completion of Registered Health Information Technology Associates Degree program within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Education: Completion of an accredited health information technology program and current RHIT credential.
Minimum Experience: 1 - 3 years experience in a medical records department.
Preferred Experience: Previous record analysis and delinquency tracking, document scanning and validation as well as monitoring regulatory compliance
