Description
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, with technical supervision by senior physicist and clinical supervision from radiation physicians, the supervisor is a practicing radiation therapist that provides tactical support to meet the goals and objectives of the organization and service for the radiation oncology department in addition to treating patients and performing CT simulations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Responsible for the assessment, evaluation, discipline, coaching and monitoring of radiation therapists. Functions in a leadership role contributing to the efficient and effective operations of the service overseeing the daily treatment activities and treatment schedules of the patients in the department to facilitate an efficient workflow, and optimize radiation therapists' staff schedule. Lead and content expert on new technology including respiratory gating, DIBH, prone breast, OSMS, and the TrueBeam radiation delivery system. Utilizes expert radiation therapy knowledge to explain the treatment process to the patient on the first day of CT simulation. Skilled at fabricating immobilization devices, including SRS masks SBRT vac-loc bags. Knowledge of multiphase contrast CT scan and 4D CT reconstruction technique. Ensures staff perform detailed communication regarding patient set-ups at CT simulation to reproduce accurately at the linear accelerator. Using a collaborative approach, assures cooperation of the multidisciplinary team supporting the goals for the shared patient. Uses critical thinking in planning, priority-setting, and decision-making while ensuring positive working systems exist to support the staff's ability to meet patient needs. Assures that care, equipment and services provided are appropriate for the ages and needs of the population served. Ensures ongoing regulatory readiness of the staff and service, participating in chart reviews, monitoring and other performance improvement activities as assigned. Adheres to the highest customer service standards and hold staff accountable for the same. Provides prompt service recovery when indicated.
Ability to effectively communicate with leadership, physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, senior physicist, medical physicist, dosimetrist, and administrative office. Ensures the safe and quality delivery of services in the radiation oncology department. Responsible for the daily workflow, coordination of the radiation therapy staff to perform all treatments competently and precisely, and collaborates with respective colleagues. Is responsible to ensure accurate billing by therapists. Assists with the assessment and communication of equipment service issues and works with management to ensure that resolution has been met. Assists in the introduction of new equipment and procedures. Coordinates education and training for radiation therapy staff, assesses staffing needs, and communicates to management the need for staffing adjustments to meet work volumes. Acts as a liaison between other departments and community practices to effectively communicate and coordinate timely delivery of treatments. Required to cover shifts and report on call in cases of emergency radiation treatment or other urgent departmental needs. Must be expert in the use of Aria, with good working knowledge of billing, and radiation coding. Responsible to hold staff accountable to meet excellent patient service and experience. Ensures regulatory compliance is met as defined by The Joint Commission, CDPH, Astro best practices. Requires 24-hour accountability.
Ability to speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Job Requirements

| Minimum Experience: | 1-3 years radiation therapy experience on Varian TrueBeam or Edge |
