The purpose of this position is to become a subject matter expert in Pacira proprietary manufacturing technology and aid in technical support to commercial production of Pacira’s products. The successful candidate will aid in experiments and data collection to increase product and process understanding and evaluate improvements as necessary. The position will support both drug and device development activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in trouble-shooting problems that come up during all stages of process development, including commercial manufacture.
  • Help evaluate new process analytical technologies and perform in-process lab analysis (uv-hplc, particle size distribution) for existing products.
  • Help design (using design of experiments principles), perform, and analyze experiments for process robustness and optimization studies.
  • Work in laboratory and commercial manufacturing settings.
  • Perform detailed documentation of experiments in lab notebooks, maintain data summaries, and summarize projects in technical reports.
  • Maintain high level of technical knowledge in areas of responsibility.
  • Comply with cGMPs where appropriate.

Interaction:

  • Work closely with analytical development and clinical manufacturing teams.

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Equivalent
  • 3-6 years of pharmaceutical and/or R&D experience (experience in device development a plus)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Experience with device development and manufacture is desirable
  • Previous experience with wet chemistry and chemical analysis (HPLC, ELSD, PSD, pH)
  • Hands on lab, pilot plant, or commercial production experience.
  • Knowledge of process equipment and chemistry is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and in cross functional teams.
  • Demonstrated computer efficiency (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets).
  • Good observation skills and problem solving ability.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
