The CMO Director will manage the business relationships with Pacira’s CMO’s and to ensure contract compliance.  This role is a key strategic leader to support future growth and global expansion of the company’s portfolio and ensure CMO / CPO capabilities and capacity meets Pacira’s business needs for global markets.  The position requires expertise in contracting, managing contract manufacturer’s, budgeting, supplier development, QBRs, and general project management of a commercial pharmaceutical product.  The position will report to the Vice President, Global Supply Chain and will have a direct report who manage day-to-day CPO relationships. The individual will assume a leadership role in projects with aggressive timelines and high business impact, supporting contract adherence and general management of all aspects of the CMO product value stream. Projects will include but are not limited product transfer to new manufacturing locations, developing new CMO business opportunities, and establishing capability for new products / line extensions.  This position will also work closely with various departments Manufacturing, Planning, Procurement, Business Development, Legal, Product Development and Quality Assurance to support global product supply for all current and future CMO/CPO operational products.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to build and maintain strong partnerships with all internal and external stakeholders and lead discussion, problem solving efforts and process improvements to ensure that performance targets are met or exceeded
  • Provide leadership over CMO relationships and maintain responsibility for contract oversight, including performing as the primary business contact for SCC CMO relationships.
  • Develop and lead QBR discussions and meetings in efforts to achieve performance goals and contract compliance for CMO / CPOs to ensure service levels are met.
  • Develop useful metrics to measure and monitor performance of CMO / CPO’s.
  • Participate in internal planning processes to ensure alignment on production requirements at assigned CMOs and delivery of product
  • Oversee communication PO’s and Forecasts to CMOs within contractual lead times.
  • Participate in CMO / CPO selection activities and contract negotiations to ensure they have the capabilities to meet requirements.
  • Identify, propose and manage improvement projects to address process deficiencies or improvement opportunities
  • Manage and drive initiatives as well as managing people within the group to accomplish team goals
  • Support the Vice President in development and execution various global supply chain initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This leader has direct supervisory responsibilities over the Sr. CMO Manager.

Interaction:

  • The incumbent works closely with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Legal, Manufacturing, Planning, and Procurement. In addition, the incumbent will interact with CMOs and Alliance Partners outside of Pacira.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management discipline from an accredited college or university, or equivalent required.
  • 12 years combined experience in supply chain / manufacturing role in a GMP manufacturer (pharmaceutical preferred).  Ideal candidate also has 10 years of experience directly managing commercial operations teams and/ or projects as well as external companies such and CMOs.
  • Experience working in matrix organizations; works effectively within cross-functional and multi-location/ multi-cultural teams requiring large-scale coordination
  • Good understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing with knowledge of engineering and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and industry standards, and planning practices required to manage detailed scheduling and planning data
  • Proven track record of delivering successful projects with excellent project management capabilities and demonstrated evidence of analytical, planning, and execution capabilities.
  • Exhibit creativity in adapting to situations, develops contingency plans, and makes decisions
  • Proven leadership skills in the development of staff and managing CMO Operations.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and engage others to ensure successful delivery of product to the marketplace.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant topics within QA, QC, Manufacturing, and Supply as required to efficiently lead cross functional teams.
  • A quick learner and team player, exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and purchasing/planning functions.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft applications with particular focus on MS Project Management
