Summary:   
The purpose of this position is for conducting and providing mechanical expertise in the maintenance and repair activities of the manufacturing and facilities equipment and systems in support of scheduled production activities and resolving the day-to-day equipment and facilities related issues. The overarching goal is to ensure that manufacturing systems and support utilities are available as demanded by the manufacturing schedule.  This includes maintaining the physical operation of the systems as well as their documented validated state.     
   
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:   
  • Ensure that production equipment and support utilities are available as demanded by manufacturing.
  • Organize and prepare technical documentation necessary to ensure support of cGMP operations.  
  • Detect and resolve recurring system problems
  • Contribute to the identification and procurement of appropriate spare parts and materials
  • Provide leadership and support to facility and equipment mechanics.
  • Assist in the validation of new or modified support facilities.
  • Support Pacira Pharmaceuticals facilities-wide.
Supervisory Responsibilities:   
This person has no direct supervisor responsibilities.   
  
Interaction:   
The incumbent primarily works with the Plant Operations, Manufacturing, and Process Development personnel and members of various Quality departments.  Frequently deals with outside vendors or contractors, and occasionally interfaces with all Company departments or levels of management.   
  
Education and Experience:   
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 years of relevant facilities and/or process equipment experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   
  • Basic knowledge of cGMP parenteral manufacturing practices and facilities
  • Significant knowledge of cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing support utilities
  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift (includes overtime eligibility)
  • Ability to work weekends
  • Ability to manage projects with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Troubleshooting: Must be proficient in troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical equipment
  • Excellent planning, organizing and execution skills
  • Specific technical skills in HVAC, autoclaves, glass wash equipment and various pumps, mechanical seals, and motors
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and work with minimum supervision
  • Proficient oral and written English communication skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, move between spaces, reach with hands and arms and stoop.  Close vision and the need to focus on detailed work subjects, use of hands, fingers and wrist to operate various hand and power tools.  Will need to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and work from a ladder up to 12 feet high.

The incumbent is exposed to a wide variety of working conditions from the typical office setting, with staff in cubicles, moderate noise levels with consistent printer, telephone ringing and conversation, to machinery rooms with elevated noise levels, access to rotating equipment, hot liquids, steam, compressed gasses, cryogenic liquids, high voltage electricity and strong chemicals.

The base pay range for this role in California is $26.15 per hour to $35.96 per hour. This role is classified as non-exempt and eligible for over-time.   
   
The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
