Summary:
The Site Controller will be responsible for reporting, planning and forecasting and analysis for the manufacturing, product development and capital expenditures for the Science Center site and one contract manufacturing site. This position will also have accounting responsibilities for the site including managing cost and inventory accounting, departmental accruals and monthly close activities. This position will provide timely, accurate and relevant financial information and ensure insights are provided to the business.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage staff responsible for cost accounting and manufacturing accounting functions for two commercial products including internal and contract manufacturing.
- Prepare monthly gross margin analysis for the site by product line on a timely basis, as well as income statement and balance sheet variance analysis for respective areas.
- Lead the implementation/maintenance of inventory costing into general ledger system.
- Review manufacturing month-end close and inventory valuation.
- Report monthly on manufacturing variances for the site (actual versus budget) for material, labor and overhead.
- Document policies and procedures for monthly system close and inventory movement in system.
- Develop reports and/or systems to support planning activities, including budgeting and forecasting and manage the financial planning and budget preparations for manufacturing and product development departments.
- Lead the preparation and dissemination of monthly financial information for the site leadership team including leading monthly profit / performance review meetings.
- Liaison with the site’s product development departments to provide support and analysis.
- Lead the month-end accrual process for the product development organization, including reviewing entries and meeting with business to determine month-end accruals.
- Lead the capital planning and accrual accounting for fixed assets for the site.
- Perform financial analysis and modeling / special projects for the site.
- Review contracts to confirm coding, budgeted amounts and ensure amounts are reasonable.
- Provide insight on cost savings activities and lead projects on cost reduction opportunities.
- Participate in quarterly reviews, annual audit, and SOX 404 compliance testing to ensure that all finance and accounting policies and documentation are provided to external parties.
- Ensure effective communication between accounting and all internal/external customers.
- Manage the preparation of long range planning for key areas for the site.
- Other ad hoc analysis / projects as deemed appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage staff of two. All reports have FP&A and Accounting responsibilities of select functional areas for the site.
Interaction:
- Works closely with entire accounting/finance team, operations, vendors and consultants. Travel is required to ensure appropriate support for contract manufacturing sites and to headquarters. Travel is estimated at <10%.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting/Finance from accredited college or university
- CPA or MBA required
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience in Finance and Accounting, including cost accounting experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a team in an accounting or finance department
- Process Manufacturing in Pharmaceuticals a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General accounting principles and the preparation and implementation of accounting policies, systems and procedures
- High proficiency in MS Office including Excel (expert level), Word, Power Point and Outlook
- Demonstrated current knowledge of GAAP and SOX with an understanding of internal accounting controls
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Budgeting, Forecasting and financial analysis
- Demonstrated knowledge of Cost, Inventory and Fixed Asset Accounting
- Demonstrated excellent analytical abilities
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment in a multi-product, multi-site manufacturing organization
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines

The base pay range for this role in California is $160,000 per year to $220,000 per year.
The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
